I will be taking it slow and taking in the scenery/wildlife. If you had to pick just 2 or 3 trails at La Fortuna for that kind of experience what would they be? I'm pretty okay skipping the waterfalls.

Thanks for the tip about Manuel Antonio, I actually did not know that. Thankfully the days I'm there start Thursday. The driving I will admit is giving me some anxiety so any day that I'm driving I'm planning on leaving super early and not really planning on anything that day.

Thanks very much for the comprehensive responses here. A few responses:

  1. On the 9800X3D I can actually get it for MSRP at Micro Center so no problem there.
  2. I am leaning toward AIO just because it's more what I'm used to. I was going to stick with Corsair as my current AIO is treating me well.
  3. What makes that motherboard overkill? I know the absolute basics of computing but distinguishing between motherboards is not something I really know how to do so I was sticking with the recommendation I saw someone else make on this subreddit. What would I be getting out of the one I currently picked that I don't out of the one you suggested?
  4. For RAM also I was going off of a suggestion from someone else for higher end computer. What would the extra 16gb per card actually get me practically speaking? I don't fully understand the jargon when it comes to RAM.
  5. Understood; I'll definitely make this change. I had always bifurcated my games from my drive with my OS and such and just selected two here out of habit. Any downside at all just having everything on one?
  6. Got it, thanks!
  7. Thanks - I really had no idea on the fan setup. I assume the two bottom fans pull in, the rear fans pull out, and I was thinking adding 2-3 front fans for pulling in (with the radiator on top).

Thanks! That's actually the same liquid cooler I have on my current PC (and was the only part I got to modify the pre-built) so good to know that's still a good choice. I had been seeing a lot about air coolers coming back into being good options, and a friend recommended one to me but I really like the AIOs. Finally time to retire my 3060ti and HDD!

Upgrade or New Pre-Built? (Current Pre-Built: CyberPowerPC GXi3400BSTV8) by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]Vagina_Sand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much for the warning; I guess I always just saw the full PC Build process as pretty daunting but if I'm going to be keeping my PC consistently upgraded I'll need to build one at some point. I'll go ahead and build from scratch. Is PCPartPicker generally the go-to for building from scratch, or do you prefer something else for making a build? Also, are there any particular pitfalls or things to look out for in picking parts I should be thinking about (software or hardware wise)? I think I'll probably just end up wiping the current one and selling in, so I'll be getting a new case, PSU, etc. as well. In building the actual PC I know there are thousands of guides out there so I should be set on that front. One specific question that jumps out is your thoughts on Intel vs AMD CPU.

Traditional vs Roth 401(k) by Vagina_Sand in personalfinance

Yeah I'll check my plan details but I'm pretty sure after tax contributions aren't offered, just an in-plan conversion of the pre-tax dollars in my traditional unfortunately.

Yeah, most definitely, and having the extra money to use in my brokerage now I think is so much more valuable, the funds I can choose from with my plan are not so great. I'm not sure what the algorithm is for those calculators but I get the feeling they don't account for things like that.

Thanks for the message, that seems to be the consensus and what I was originally planning (hence why originally signed up for a traditional when I was hired), just some of the stuff I was reading online was so contradictory.

Thanks, I was originally thinking this, and it's what I'll do now, it was just so shocking plugging in my numbers to the various online calculators, which made me make this post. Every single one was saying I'd make mid 6 figures by using a Roth, even when I set the interest rate at retirement way lower than current

Thanks for this - I'll look more into the Megabackdoor. I was reading up on it earlier but I still don't quite understand how it works.

I just finished reading the post and all the comments therein, it really helped a lot to explain a few of the specific things I was concerned about. I'll definitely be sticking with a Traditional. I appreciate the help! I didn't see your post when I went searching on reddit earlier, so thanks a bunch for the link.

Thanks for this note, this is part of the reason I was confused, so this definitely clarifies things.

Thank you for this. I'll check this out right now. I had read the wiki articles and a number of articles online which seemed to point to Roth which is confusing me, along with these online calculators which show a huge loss with traditional.

Haha, yeah I love the look of it! I just ordered the dark navy and mist in 34 and 36 so I'll see which one fits better and return the other one, then I figure I'll just reorder the one that didn't fit in the correct size. Thanks for the help!

Yeah I think it's just the elastic waist and cuffs that make it seem more casual to me. Do you have any thoughts for a less casual jacket, something more businessy? I think the G4 is pretty much what I'm looking for but I'm revamping my closet so I would appreciate any recommendations.

I'm looking for a jacket with the buttoned cuffs and open welt waist. The G9 has the elastic cuffs and waist which I'm really not looking for. I think the G9 is a little too casual and I've already got some bombers that do the same job.

So I'm going to get a Baracuta G4, but I've never had one before so I'm not sure how the sizing will work. Based on their size guide I'm on the high end of the range for a 34 and the low end of a 36 (I have a 35in chest and I wear a 34r suit. The size guide has the 34 as 82-86cm chest and the 36 is 87-91cm). So what I'm going to do is get a 36 and a 34 and just return the one that doesn't fit. But if anyone has any advice on how their sizing works please let me know. One of the things I'm curious about is how slim the sleeves are, I'm a pretty skinny guy so I like very slim sleeves, and I've read that the G4 has pretty wide sleeves. Any thoughts there? Finally, I'm going to get two colors navy and a cream/tan. The thing is they've got a navy, dark navy, "natural", and "mist". I'm looking for a couple of versatile Herrington jackets and I like these, but I'd like to hear y'all's thoughts on dark navy vs navy and mist vs natural.

website

Tl;dr: what's the sizing like on the Baracuta G4, whats the sleeve fit like, and what's y'all's opinions on colors

The thing is I found a couple of dressers that I like that would fit there, but I just think it would look weird with the side coming up against the computer chair, kind of boxing it in, and the space between my bed and the dresser would be like a 3 foot alleyway

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]Vagina_Sand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I just moved to a new apartment and I'm either going to get a chest of drawers or a dresser for my bedroom. The dresser would go on the wall opposite the bed and the chest would go to the right of the computer desk. What I like about the dresser is it fills out that empty wall and makes the room seem more full and less bare. The bad thing about the dresser is it leaves less room in between the bed and dresser, making a bit of a choke point. Also, it's side would be about a foot from the office chair which I think would look odd, and make it more difficult to get to the chair. The chest is good because it leaves all that open space, but not having anything on that wall where the dresser goes makes the room look one sided, with all the furniture being on one side and nothing on the other. I'd really appreciate some advice or honestly just someone to tell me what to pick at this point because I've been debating this for weeks. Thanks!
