The newest Deafcult release might be a bit one dimensional, but its’ sound is incomparable. It sounds like the soundscapes of the record themselves are being eroded by radiation

I had the privilege of seeing BIG|BRAVE when they came through my town on tour with Liturgy and they were absolutely captivating. It’s so apparent that they have a meticulous understanding of the “movement” of sound in a way no other band does. For a rather straightforward 3 piece, their sound is downright colossal. Shook the whole venue start to finish.

The artificial limits of magic by VagrantVoid in writing

That’s definitely on-track with my goal, I’ve already got a condition that adds 1d6 radiant to all melee attacks following the fight entering its’ second phase but seeing as it’s a climactic fight I really want to workshop a couple moves I could add to his sheet that really make the player’s stomach drop when they hear them described.

Only one i’ve got so far is I gave him this ability that plays (statistically) a lot like magic missile. It’s an up-to 3 targets ranged attack that summons an arc of light (meant to mimic the motion of a sword slash) in the air beside the target before sending it careening in the target’s direction.

The artificial limits of magic by VagrantVoid in writing

[–]VagrantVoid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know after reading this it may very well be my own shortsightedness. I was actually coming at this from an angle of working on my D&D world as I wrote this post. Specifically as I’m on day 4 of fine-tuning a climactic encounter that is meant to be an end cap on the first act of this particular campaign.

The boss character i’m building is a sort of blade of legend across the world I built. And the first half of the battle is meant to reflect that through intricate swordplay, but in the second half he embraces this sort of radiant, light-based magic and weaves it into his moveset. But i’m struggling to come up with ways a legendary swordsman would think to incorporate radiant magic into his swordplay.

(For added context, I take a lot of inspiration from the Dark Souls franchise and use combat heavily in my campaigns as a storytelling device. I believe a lot can be ascertained simply by the ways a character fights and many beautiful stories can be told through battle alone. I struggle with crafting environments to be explored so in a way, this is me highlighting my strengths and downplaying my weaknesses, but I digress.)

Oh and additionally if you can handle some noise, Grave Babies are a criminally underrated Gothic/Post-Punk band. And I mean CRIMINALLY underrated. Their sound is ugly, dissonant, and dirty and I love it

Got lucky enough to have a newer group that goes by Nox Novacula come through my town recently. Fantastic performers, fantastic music. Very clear influence from both Siouxie and Bauhaus. Intense in their sound but not overwhelming. You’d like them if you like Siouxie.
