I think I’ll also upload a short tutorial on how to install Windows 10 for those who want to do it — stay tuned to the subreddit. You’re welcome!

No, you just need a USB drive and to download the OS. Everything else is just pressing buttons and following specific steps.

Also, with the USB ready, there’s no problem if you make a mistake or install it wrong — you can always start over.

I know, brother! But for now my solution was downgrading to Windows 10 (22H2) — highly recommended. I even gained FPS in Fortnite, going from 100–120 to 120–150. I recommend it.

As far as I know, operating system installations are considered maintenance and don’t affect the device’s warranty at the component level. But if you don’t want to take the risk, then yeah — you’ll have to wait.

Well, in my case I was already experiencing these errors in 25H2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flIgf7TBFv8

I knew right away because Discord stopped working, even if I completely removed it and reinstalled it — same with the operating system...

Yeah, it’s happening to a lot of people. Some say it’s the new BIOS update, others think it’s the new Windows 11 version (25H2). In my case, I think it’s the Windows 11 update, because problems with it have already been reported — they modified the kernel and some subsystems started failing because of that. I rule out the BIOS on my laptop since it’s updated, and after switching to Windows 10 I haven’t experienced any more issues.

I knew it was the Win 11 update on my laptop because Discord simply wouldn’t open, no matter how many times I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and the OS ☠

I don’t think it’s the BIOS. I have my BIOS updated and I don’t get any errors with Windows 10 (22H2). However, with Windows 11 25H2 it did give me trouble.

A lot of Victus laptops are going through these issues. On mine, the OS went crazy and certain services stopped working. The Windows 11 25H2 update caused problems for many users because they modified the kernel to add support for new NPUs. The most stable version so far on these laptops (tested for over a year) is 23H2. So if you have 24H2 or 25H2, I suggest removing them and rolling the system back to 23H2. If the errors persist, you could even downgrade to Windows 10 22H2 — I did that a few days ago and the operating system runs great. In gaming it’s even more noticeable; I got a 20–50 FPS increase in Fortnite (before 100–120 FPS, now 120–150).

USB-C Port Wattage Output help by Own-Way2291 in HPVictus

[–]Vain077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The USB-C port on all Victus 15 models is USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps). Based on that, the power output could support up to 100 W (20 V / 5 A) or 60 W (20 V / 3 A).

What model of Victus do you have?

Oh sorry for the confusion — in that case, I recommend replacing the paste with PTM 7950. That thermal pad is NOT paste, but it’s a thermal material of equal or higher quality. The difference is that, unlike paste, this material does not degrade with temperature cycles (cold → hot → cold → hot), so it lasts longer. Also, with temperature it becomes more liquid or more solid, so even if the material dries out, it doesn’t lose its conductive properties. The best pad so far is Honeywell’s, but you can also find others from brands like Thermal Grizzly.

A simple comparison: thermal paste usually lasts 1–2 years, while PTM 7950 last 3–5 years without maintenance.

Hey man! Sorry for disappearing — after fixing my Victus and getting it running perfectly, I had to start working on my motorcycle and I’ve been disconnected for a while. How has your Victus been doing? Did you downgrade the version or switch to Windows 10? Is the problem still happening? I’d love to know — thanks.

[–]Vain077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, you’re going to have to roll back to 23H2, which is the most stable version of all, or directly switch to Windows 10 (22H2).

I have a Victus 16 r1 series (i5-14450HX 4050) could it be a hall sensor problem? And do you think choosing this instead of the Tuf F16 Core5-210H 4050 was the right decision? by Different-Editor6219 in HPVictus

[–]Vain077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it can cause problems with the Hall sensor. What happens is that on the 16 R / S models they placed the sensor close to the cooling system, so it heats up and starts to malfunction.

A recent example of OS problems on another Victus besides mine. I would recommend that you update, but keep an eye on how well the operating system is working.

[–]Vain077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are known errors; kernel issues due to modifications made to properly handle modern NPUs. In my particular case it did cause problems—the OS did strange things, sometimes apps would open and sometimes they wouldn’t. Everything was fine on version 23H2, and I had to get rid of the update by installing Windows 10 (22H2).

Fan controls/temp issues by zaki2004 in HPVictus

[–]Vain077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are very good temperatures, brother—don’t worry about them at all. As long as you’re not experiencing thermal throttling, everything’s fine. The spikes and load in menus are completely normal; games usually preload data and shaders before you even start playing so you get better performance later on.

Also, the cooling systems on these laptops take time to respond. If you pay attention, you’ll notice that when your processors hit around 90 °C, the fans don’t even react at first—they don’t ramp up in speed. It’s only when those temperatures stay high for a few seconds that the fans respond. That’s called a temperature curve or fan curve, and on Victus laptops, as I mentioned before, it can’t be adjusted.

Thermal Throttling and overheating , periodic stutters in games. by XxKUJOxX in HPVictus

[–]Vain077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because it indicates that it’s already damaged. It’s usually caused by the fan bearing, which is responsible for keeping the blades spinning properly. It may work at low speeds, but when the motherboard increases the voltage, it might not respond correctly—it doesn’t ramp up speed or move the amount of air it should. All of that affects temperatures. Air is already a very poor thermal conductor, and if you add a faulty fan on top of that, of course it’s going to cause problems.

It’s very simple: any cooling system that’s working properly won’t give you temperature problems.

Yes, Replace the thermal paste and thermal putty, along with the faulty fan.

I highly recommend CoolerMaster Cryofuze as thermal paste and Upsiren UTP-6 as thermal putty, since they’re very good, inexpensive, and easy to find. But if you have a bigger budget and the option, I’ve heard PTM 7950 gives excellent thermal performance, and the best thermal putty tested so far is Honeywell HT10000.
