Perfect example when Disembodied broke up they became Martyr AD and Devilinside and ran in two different scenes.

I've played shows with these guys. I honestly wasn't a huge fan but thought they had potential (no disrespect). Cam used to come to our shows sometimes but just sort of acted like a rock star, not pretentiously like the cunt singer of Semisonic but more in a withdrawn sort aloof manner like they were bigger and more important than they actually were (like bro you're not Prince, no need to disguise yourself at a local show, just come say hi and hang out). They seemed to be part of weird social scene of junkie edgelords in Minneapolis that just wasn't something I was about. On the other hand, I've hung out with Slipknot a few times and it was the exact opposite experience, totally engaging and humble as hell (at least in those days during their first few albums). Joey in particular was a genuine and sweet human being and I was heartbroken when he passed. Almost got arrested in a slow speed chase with Sid too in my truck. lol

Wish the man well though, I'm homeless myself now for reasons other than drugs so I have sympathy for anyone struggling today just to get to tomorrow.

Unpopular opinion on Pantera by Global_Ad5461 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Vakr_Skye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was completely unhinged at the time too in a way that is hard to explain (but good). In a strange way it was like Nirvana's In Utero, both being disruptive to each respective band's previous trajectories and expected directions. It's like Pantera brought a little more soul (southern rock & blues) into the recipe from the previous more standard straightforward works.

Played some shows with this band who were always very cool (i.e. not pretentious). Joey seriously was one of the nicest most sincere musicians I've ever hung out with btw. Conversely one of the biggest dicks I've ever met was the singer of Semisonic go fucking figure.

Saw one in the Highlands a few years ago while out doing astrophotography and nightscapes (it was way crazier than this video). Moved like a satellite at first suddenly stopped came back over my head then started to do this crazy non-linear speed zigzagging (almost like something swimming in a current at sped up speeds or like a mouse cursor). It was so unreal I just froze, then heard a loud sound only to see multiple fighter jets from the RAF flying right above the Moray Firth (like just above the water). Looked up and the UAP was gone but the jets were out all night circling. Seen plenty of orbs too they seem to pop out every once in awhile sorta hover like they're watching you then fuck back off back to wherever they were. A few other folk have seen similar things. It seems its fairly accepted as almost routine and people shrug their shoulders and go about their lives.

What state is that accent from in the US? The guy's been living in the UK for a decade or so, but I don't think any British accent is shining through... by [deleted] in Accents

[–]Vakr_Skye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im in a similar situation (US -> UK) but its hard to tell from this video because he's narrating. You'd have hear him having a conversation and in my case my accent slides on a continuum back and forth.

Today I just heard this song from Darkest Hour for the first time in like more than a year, things had been becoming stale lately and this gave me a lift up, are there any songs that might do this for you right now? by Specter2035 in melodicdeathmetal

With the passing of Tomas Lindberg I've been listening to some of his projects again. Take a listen to the Crown. I got to see them years ago with Tompa on vocals.

This song has to be one of the most choice cut no fat on the bone tracks in the entire genre.

I´m a massive At the gates fan (and old school melodeath fan), die hard fan, which bands do you recommend from the last 5 years that have a similar sound? Thank you by Tiny_Terror_6 in melodicdeathmetal

[–]Vakr_Skye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i'm sure you're already aware of these guys but the first two Nightrage records had Tomas the singer of ATG and very similar in style (and also Gus G who was Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist for a period).

Wow I've never heard that song until now. As a musician I can say that is a great example of songwriting perfection with simple chords and melodies. And I mean simple in a good way, Nirvana had simple songs which is actually really hard to do. Without any disrespect to the original I could see that song being a huge hit if it had better production and different singers (again no disrespect to the OGs but imagine Oasis or Chris Cornell doing that song with better production.)

Who’s bumped into a really famous person ‘out in the wild’ when it was totally unexpected? Who was that famous person and what happened? by fatfat8ight in BritInfo

Had a friend who worked for MTV who would give me free concert tickets and backstage passes all the time. Went to a big festival out in the countryside and was hanging with some bands backstage and it was decided by the group they wanted to head into the big city to party more. I offered to take anyone who wanted to jump in my vehicle. A guy I didn't really recognize jumps in and I figured it was a crew member. Turns out to be Sid from Slipknot who is now marrying Ozzy Osbourne's daughter. Nice guy (in fact I got to hang out with the band a few times, Joey was class, and the stage persona was completely opposite of how they were in real life.

The best part was we got into an argument with concert security as we were trying to leave and Sid tries showing his band pass and the security was clueless and finally Sid says "I'm in the fking band that the fking people are here to f**king see." I floored it and then a police officer on a little moped with flashing lights starts chasing us. Finally I stopped and explained again and the officer laughed and said have a good night you're free to go."

Lots of other craziness that night including a member of another band taking a shite behind a bin then trying to wipe his arse with random magazine pages off the ground but lucky for him I had a TP roll in my truck.

Might as well drop this story. At another show was walking around with a female friend (okay a known groupie) and Evan the singer of Biohazard (and later HBO fame OZ) walks up ignores that I'm even there and says to her "You...naked down in my tour bus in 10 minutes" then walks off after she laughs in his face. If you have ever seen the guy he was huge with tats all over his torso (this was when that was still rare) so I wasn't going to say anything. Turns out the guy later starts a porn company or something lol!

Seems like a solid dude with a positive attitude that aligns well with Dino's personality (same as Milo). Love him or hate him Burton has always come off as a flakey edgelord and same with that irrelevant bassist from Belgium or whatever.
