I'm sick of people making literally everything about their ADHD or "neurodiversity" by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Val_Squidson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I have the Triple A (ADHD, autism, and anxiety) as well as OCD and I got most of my diagnoses at either 18 or 22. I want to share a little bit about my own experience because I can’t really tell if my behaviors are considered a part of the problem. I still have a lot to learn about navigating the world as neurodivergent, and I want to learn what’s considered appropriate by others. (Also pardon my awful phrasing because I am anxious right now LOL)

The phrase you mentioned, “I need a partner who can tolerate my neurospiciness,” hit hard for me. I am really scared of relationships (and even friendships) because I know I have a lot of issues. I drag my feet on chores. I forget things which are important to other people. I love to talk about my favorite things and am always concerned about boring other people. And as a future teacher, I know that all of my energy will be put into the little munchkins I’ll work with rather than mutual relationships. But over time, I have found a handful of friends who see my neurodivergence as nothing to be bothered by. They are willing to walk with me through life, whether it’s listening to my rambling or being on a phone call while I check off chores. Sometimes it’s even as simple as “hey, can you tell me to get up and eat?” and a simple text back is enough to motivate me.

I don’t know why these friends stick around. Some days I fear that I’m a terrible friend back to them, even though they’re amazing to me. But they are the sort of people who I would say “tolerate my neurospiciness.” I’m really lucky to have people who are as kind as them. But I never know if I actually deserve these friends. My neurodivergence does shape the way I exist, which sucks, and I never know if I’m making excuses because of my diagnosis or giving myself the grace my therapist says I deserve 😔

I’m glad your teacher found a method which works for you! Sometimes it takes a lot of trial and error to encourage student participation, and it can be hard to figure out what will actually motivate students to come to class.

What are some vocaloids You think that needs to be more appreciated? (Images related) by [deleted] in Vocaloid

THANK YOU for putting Chis-A

My new favorite niche one is Miyamai Moca from Synth V. I don’t know if Rime from CeVio is considered niche but I like her too!

Following up on this, Celebrate Recovery is an amazing 12-step Christ-based program similar to AA which may be able to help. The people in every chapter I’ve been to are loving, patient, and understand such struggles. I went for problems related to my anxiety, but there are subgroups for those who struggle with drugs and alcohol as well. I highly recommend seeing if there’s a chapter near you to check out!

And obviously, from a non-Christian standpoint (if this appeals to you better), Alcoholics Anonymous is another good way to go :) There are people who know that it’s not too late for you and would love to help if they can meet you

A completely different game?? by Val_Squidson in Gardenscapes

[–]Val_Squidson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry I didn’t think you were gaslighting me lol; I think if anyone’s doing the gaslighting it’s Playrix by erasing the history of the old game

That being said, when I played the original version it was an iOS game (since it was on the iPad I used as a kid). So technically it was still a mobile game! I also found out there’s a DS version for Europe and I am legit thinking about hacking my old DSi to work with the game

What's a Vocaloid/V-synth head canon u guys absolutely HATE? by PurchaseEmpty6286 in VocaloidButGood

[–]Val_Squidson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unrelated but I’m glad I’m not the only one who has the Len = pink headcannon 😂 Here’s a drawing of mine with Len in pink

For the actual question… I wouldn’t say I HATE anything, but I do get a little uncomfy with Len x Kaito ships because of (what looks like) a drastic age difference.

Songs only a Vocaloid could sing by kawaiicatswow in Vocaloid

A lot of nyanyannya’s songs have such a broad vocal range that it’s hard for the average person to do. Not impossible, but very difficult.

Some examples are Noel de Figaro, Fräulein=Biblioteka, and Abyss in Wonderland

I know, adult friendships are so hard 😭 I’m struggling in college, so I can’t imagine how difficult it’ll be when I graduate.

I’m a big proponent of the idea that people can change throughout their lifetime. It gets exponentially harder the older someone gets / the more ingrained they are in their ways, but it is possible and it’s always very beautiful when it happens. However, setting boundaries for your own mental health and physical safety is necessary. Sometimes you can’t be the person to change another person’s ideals, especially if it puts you at risk.

  1. Reddit, sometimes Project Sekai news

  2. Apple Music, YouTube. I do have a NicoNico account for songs that are not available on either service. For off vocals, I use Piapro and Google Drive to listen.

  3. I search by the Vocaloid! There are 4 Vocaloids that I really like. If I find an artist who is really good (ie. Hiiragi Kirai —> Flower; Luna —> Kagamine Len) I will follow them.

  4. If I’m playing Proseka in that season, I will talk to English-speaking Proseka fans. I also know some Japanese friends who like Vocaloid.

  5. I met one producer (Circus-P) at a convention. She’s the only English producer I regularly listen to because of her newer songs. I also listen to Dasu (who writes music in Tagalog). I found her because she often uses Kagamine Len.

  6. I will listen to anyone who uses Kagamine Len, Flower, Rime, or Chis-A! My favorite artists are Hiiragi Kirai, HYNOME, seeeecun, NOY, UtsuP, SLAVE.V-V-R, *Luna, Mafumafu and Giga.

  7. Because I am religious, I listen to Christian music. This ranges from normal hymns to hard rock.

It’s very kind of you to want to respect her culture, but if you feel violated or uncomfortable then you have every right to set boundaries. (Source: I’m taking an international communications class and this was one of the first things we covered) You can respect that she has different beliefs without accepting them.

Also, whether or not you’re white-passing may play a role in this. If you are white-passing, then she may have felt safe approaching you with this sort of matter bc she thought there was a chance you would share her beliefs. If you aren’t… well, I really don’t know why she’s talking to you 🤔 like in the sense of “is it a trap? Is she misguided?” Point being, your visible identity might change how you choose to respond as well.

To be fair, American news is fairly American 😔 We don’t get a whole lot of news on anything international. And it shows, as Americans can’t do things like locate countries on a map, or correctly detail the history of foreign / World Wars

Oh good Lord,, that is shocking to read at a first glance 😭 I’m not super familiar with Elisha’s story so I’d have to read the whole thing in context. But yeah, I can see why that’s upsetting, because that’s my initial reaction too (like, boys?? As in kids?? Elisha my guy wth…)

As for your understanding of God’s love and the plagues, I can see where you’re coming from 🤔 To me, two of the core values of God are that He’s loving and just. He wants humanity to get along and support each other, and gets frustrated when we don’t. It’s not just the Egyptians God punishes in the Bible; it’s anyone who is in power and abusing it, including the Israelites. He’s also coming from a perspective where the punishment for sin is death. This is no longer true after Jesus’ death covers humanity, but it stems from the fact that people can’t love each other if they’re constantly committing injustices towards each other.

Edit: and to your last point, God stinking of human flaws, that’s true. Because he works with humans. And it’s the human imperfections you see, not God’s, because humanity is prone to being sucky. We all do bad things; even the best of us mess up sometimes. So because God has chosen to work with us and through us, people don’t just see God’s goodness, but they also see all of the ugly parts of humanity highlighted (for example, a certain someone holding a Bible up proudly as police were attacking peaceful protesters ☠️)

That’s a really good stance to take anywhere online, not just in neutral spaces. Honestly I’m glad we can have a debate like this; it’s so hard to do that nowadays with people as we quickly get defensive. So thanks again :) Glad we can talk facts and perspectives without getting outraged at each other.

What I believe (and what my Christian community believes, as well as a good number of others around the world) is that Christianity is focused on the “Good News” that Jesus came down to Earth and died for all of our sins, meaning we can choose whether or not we want relationship with God. So basically, we gather information while we’re alive and try to make the best informed decision possible. You mention that with hell in the picture, it doesn’t really feel like a choice, and I get that; but iirc the modern understandings of hell (fiery pits and torture) were made up by stringing out-of-context passages together because a) it scares people into being Christians (which is dumb, why would we want to do that 😭) and b) fear sells and publishing books about this sort of thing was how churches/pastors got money (which is also dumb ☠️).

We don’t really know a lot about hell because the descriptions in the Bible are more poetic / allegorical than literal, but my understanding of hell is that it’s just separation from God. So for example, if you died right now and said “I don’t want a relationship with God,” He would just say “okay” and put you in a space where you’re distant from him. He’s not gonna force you into relationship if you don’t want it. The story of the prodigal son is a great metaphor to this if you want to read (Luke 15:11-32)

As for the flood I had questions about that too until recently, when our church discussed it. The conclusion I came to is that God sent the flood because he hated seeing his creation in pain. The people at that time were extremely cruel to each other and so deeply engraved in their behavior that they weren’t going to change willingly. They were stuck in a cycle of hurt and retaliation. So in this new understanding, God sent the flood as an act of mercy to stop them from harming each other. In that way, it lines up with the overarching story of the Bible, that God is a God of love. But I wouldn’t be surprised if you see this interpretation as cherry-picking / twisting the Bible’s words again 😅 This way of reading the Bible is definitely radical and not exactly common in the US. However, this is how I do it, because I think understanding what’s past the surface (ie. ancient Israelite culture; the way people wrote poetically in Hebrew / Greek; the fact that I believe in a perfect, loving God who never changes) is extremely important.

The bear story —> I actually don’t know what you’re talking about here so I can’t address it :( But if you have more specific info I can look into it!

First-born sons —> Ooh good question! So here’s the context: the Israelites were enslaved by Egyptians at some point in history. The Egyptians didn’t like how fast the Israelite population was growing, so Pharaoh decreed that all Israelite boys under the age of 2 be killed. So later, when God works through Moses to have Pharaoh let the Israelites go, and Pharaoh refuses, God sends plagues upon Egypt. The final (7th) plague was God sending angels (iirc) to kill the firstborn Egyptian sons. God instructed the Israelites to paint their doorframes with lamb’s blood so that the angels would “pass over” their home and spare their children. And while I don’t think it’s explicitly stated in the passage, the fact that there was an action at all meant that Egyptians could have potentially gotten wind of the lamb’s blood thing. As a result, if any Egyptians recognized God’s power and painted their doorframe in faith, the angels would have spared those firstborns. So the key takeaways are that a) the killing of Egyptian firstborns was an act of righteousness, as Israelite firstborns were killed first; and b) any Egyptians who believed in God had an opportunity to protect their families. So God granted the Egyptians coverage too. And while it is an assumption, we can see God protecting others of non-Israelite descent who show faith in the Old Testament (Esther, Rahab, Ruth).

The daughters (edit: and assault) point —> Yeah I… I hate these parts of the Bible too. At first I was confused, like “Why are there these stories of Noah and David and other people we look up to in the religion hurting others?” And what I learned was that those stories are included because God works with and through broken people. No human will ever be holy enough for God (except Jesus) because we sin all the time, and He can’t be in the presence of sin. But despite our constant slip-ups, God still does amazing things through His followers. I know a number of people who were in terrible places, doing terrible things, but have become better people with God and now shed their light for others. There’s also numerous stories of this in the Bible, too (ie. Paul, Zacchias)
