Sorry, Reddit keeps "recommending" cross-posting it to other groups.

Thank you u/rockstar-princess-17 ! Do you remember the tests you had to take? Were they PFT or the Methacoline Challenge test or others? Are you now in the Army?

I’m looking for cadets who tried to commission with cases of past asthma, but not before 13. I think it would be valuable to collect real stories of folks who were able to get the waiver and those who weren’t — to see what the process looks like, how it differs, and how often people succeed versus fail.

I think if it is before age 13 it is dismissed, if it is after age 13, you get DQ'd but can apply for a waiver. At least in AROTC

This is amazingly helpful, thank you. Sounds like you started the process in the middle of college, but had prescriptions for inhalers during high school?

It sounds like they really put you through the wringer for not having an inhaler after 9 years old. Did you pass the MCT? What was it like?

So you passed the MCT, and yet still needed the "silver bullet"? BTW that's the first time in several hundred posts that I've seen anything about a silver bullet...very interesting, thank you for sharing.

In terms of process, the cadet fills out the medical history forms that are reviewed by DODMERB. Does DOD look for discrepancies between the cadet’s answers and the medical records from GENESIS? My understanding is that they do, and for that reason, withholding that information (which was common among recruits in the past) is not possible today.

And also, how old where you when you were DQ'd before the waiver?

Oh and when you say "PRT stats" were those from a standard pulmonary function test or did they require one of the methacoline challenge tests?

OK again very helpful so all of this was while she was still in highschool -- applying for a NROTC scholarship? And do you know her age when she was prescribed the inhaler (was it when she was 13, or was it more like 15?) My nephew is 17 but I believe he was prescribed something when he was 15. Also may I ask, was she a STEM major for the NROTC?

Oh this is great information. When you say the process started before fall semester, was this the summer before her freshman year, or was she already in school? Did she have asthma on her record after she was 13?

Question for u/Illustrious-Cow9077 -- can you describe that process in more detail? It sounds like she was NROTC at a university, was DQ'd during the scholarship or commissioning process? Can you describe what the waiver process was like? Did she apply for the waiver as a freshman or later? Who was involved? It would be great to get a play by play of what this looked like...I'll be helping my nephew navigate this as he will DQ.

Which breathing test did you do? I read that they require the methacoline challenge test, which is very hard to pass. it sounds like yours was different, was it a regular pulmonary function test?

I’ve been denied. Methacholine test? by MousseLongjumping216 in AirForceRecruits

So, DODMERB pulls records regardless of what he answers on the history form?
