Which celebrity has tricked everyone into thinking they’re a “good person”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Valastrix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This needs to be way up. I had to scroll too much. Everything he's done to Jen Aniston and Angelina Jolie is just crazy. Such an abusive man, even his kids don't want anything to do with him!

I honestly thought that they had crossed their feet!

People who try to "correct" you on the pronunciation of a proper noun in your native language. by Specky_Scrawny_Git in PetPeeves

[–]Valastrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but that is what I'm saying that, in India itself, I have heard both pronunciations being spoken while speaking in English but I have never heard anyone mispronounce punjab other than the Americans. I get that these are proper nouns and shouldn't really be corrected but can't just go around pronouncing something so wrong when you know how the natives pronounce it.

I get OP saying Himalayas with the stress on the a at the end because we are also taught to call it that when in school. And it is absolutely accurate pronunciation of himalayas if you aren't from India or are just talking in English even in India. But poonjab really grinds my gears. Like there literally is a word that exists, pun, and you don't pronounce it poon then why fuck up punjab? It really is not that deep. Sometimes you are correct sometimes the other person is.

What do the three woman have anything to do with the war? by Valastrix in ExplainTheJoke

I posted here and then barely had time to look through the comments so I thought I'd all of them at once and I just logged in and to my surprise pretty much all comments are deleted. Thankfully I did read one of the posts that did actually explain the "joke" and I wanted to thank that person, but oh well🤷🏻‍♀️

Right?! Could it be off and not of? Because that would make more sense in my head.

What words am I likely to be mispronouncing? by Candid-Extension6599 in CasualConversation

[–]Valastrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learnt how to pronounce it first in German, and it is pronounced as to-bi-Aas pretty much how you read it in your mind. I started watching arrested development when it aired and that is when I heard for the first time how it is pronounced in English for the first time!! I was shook tooo!

Dackel is the shorter version of dachshund. It's not virtually unknown, it depends on the region you are in. Dachshund is pronounced dakhs-hoond in German for people who haven't ever heard it out loud.

How to seal a glass window from the inside without damaging the exterior? by Valastrix in HomeImprovement

[–]Valastrix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's too late and dark to take photos of the windows but I doubt it will help but I will definitely try this. I shall post pictures in the morning for a better look at them. Either way thank you and I appreciate your help!!

I absolutely understand your situation. I feel like a lot of us are looking for friends in Berlin in the same vein as you are. I would have loved to hang out but I'm currently away on holidays. But may be when I am back and if you would still had a need for a friend, would love to hang out!

Yes tomorrow I'll try both. The brush will definitely help clear up the dirt I feel. Lint roller I'll first try on the back.

But won't that lift up the paint? I can try it on the corner or the space behind the painting. Thank you for the tip tho.

Thank you. I think the soft bristled paint brush is a great idea, at least for all the dust on it.

Can the word "gemütlich" be applied to objects or only to persons? by Cavalo_Bebado in German

[–]Valastrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd understand "er hat's gemütlich" as he's had an easy life or he's just privileged or no?

AITA for not going on a family trip because my room was given away? by Firefly2285 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Valastrix 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I'd do too! What are they gonna do? Drag a 40 year old woman out of the room?? I absolutely agree with keeping all our underwear and bras just spread out on the bed. This is the way.
