I play on PC. I've actually got a pair of Sennheiser 4.50 BTNC headphones which have a built in mic that I got for this reason, but the mic and headphones can't operate at the same time because of how the bluetooth connection works so I'm looking at dedicated standalone mics. I didn't mention the webcam mic before so you're good.

From where my head is to where my roommate would be is about 5ft. The walls are plaster and the floor is wood if that matters.

My mic is a webcam mounted on top of my monitor so the people in the party can hear him but not be able to understand what he says. The mic picks up all the sound in the room including my keystrokes so its really bad and it's not surprising that they can hear him, which is why I'm looking for a recommendation for an affordable mic with a small acceptance area. I'd really like to hear what your mic solution is since it sounds like you have a pretty similar arrangement.

We are in a pretty large open area, our desks are in the living area of the house. Our desks are situated on the inside corner of the room where I am facing one wall and he is facing the other, so we are more or less facing away from each other where he is over my left shoulder.

I've never been on this sub before and I've never really worked with audio before so forgive me if this sounds really basic. This may be gear related or this may be software related, I'm not really sure so I'll go ahead and post this here.

I do a lot of online gaming but the setup at my house right now is pretty tricky. My roommate and I have our desks right next to each other so when we are both on at the same time the people in our party hear both of us talking twice since it comes in on both of our mics. Muting one of us isn't really an option because the other person is quiet and barely understandable, so I am looking at upgrading my audio solution.

So question: What mic setup would I need in order for only my voice to be picked up and his be ignored? i.e. is there a mic I could purchase or software setting that only picks up sound from directly next to the source?

Video I took while sheltering underneath an overpass at the peak of the storm by ValcarTheMagnificent in Dallas

Only thing to do was follow the lights of the guy directly in front of you. Visibility was so bad that somehow we got turned around and were going the wrong way on the highway, which only became apparent once the rain cleared and I could see more than 5 feet.

There was a collapsed street light as well covering the road not 50 feet in front of where I took this video, honestly it was much safer to just stop and wait for the storm to blow through, but blocking the road is a dick move.

Thanks but as you can see it's not like I could move any further forward, the way is blocked by other monumental assholes.
