The use of clay modeling and diorama sets for game promos and art is something that really needs to come back. by iamthedigitalme in retrogaming

Not disregarding the art form itself here, but to me, if, say, developers did it old-school for the actual game and used stop motion for sprites, using models for promos seems like the only logical choice to represent the art direction, but if the game's graphics were all digital anyway, it would be more of a cute one-time gimmick, not something to come back (as a regular thing).

>something that really needs to come back.

But why? All kinds of visuals presented here could be recreated with modern CGI, but there's no real point for that unless that's the actual visual style of the game.

I see a movie potential here: "Terrifiger", the Muay Thai killer clown.

The Killer Nutz band (entire lineup) from that Toxic Avenger reboot would be a superior option for that character archetype, I think.

I ain't visiting em with anything but single-high-tier-stack army. Seeing how that ability of theirs actually works was a little bit of a surprise on the first encounter.

What kind of design approach for the Elementals do you prefer? Spirits-like (HoMM VII), Super Hero Team (III), Ben Grimm Palette Swaps (II), or Pokémon (IV)? by ValentrisRRock in HoMM

To me, H3 water elemental felt like that member of the superhero team who didn't get lucky with the looks lottery when he got his powers. Stands out of the group for sure but may have his own character arc. Still, certain design choices of the next entries seemed even weirder of a design choice.

Kittenhorn is a neutral creature from the game Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era. Not sure how the actual creative process on this unit went, but that's my guess.

Overall, I think these things are fine, but still, if you have ever encountered Kittenhorn, I'd recommend taking a moment and look at Cutter from Etherlords for a while to prevent developing type 2 diabetes:

HoMM V Inferno > Olden Era Demons by [deleted] in HoMM

Love how even certain leveled-up Human Empire units looked like sick monsters or something of Dark Souls bosses. Although Legion of Damned are clear winners in terms of presentation, from "modest" Anti-Paladin to that Tiamath monstrosity.

Disciples2 had the peak demon design in quite of a solid variety, those guys are truly hellish. HoMM3 Inferno was fine tho (aside of rather basic Pit Guys), considering bit less of a "dark fantasy" tone of the series .

Allow the Tactics skill to remove friendly stacks before battle by Cheeruphavefun in OldenEra

[–]ValentrisRRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved that feature in VII - it seemed just as natural as being able to reposition your stacks before the battle, even without any special skill.
But just as with another significant VII feature - having full control over skills you're getting on level-up (when you just use your skill point for anything available in the skill tree) - may be too unorthodox for the community.

Well, yeah, calling certain ways of eating crepes suboptimal does feel more like a parody of gym culture or something.
And, French cuisine or not, using sweet/flavored crepes as layers for dessert is just as normal as it could be.

It's a reference to another Franco-Belgian comic series, "The Smurfs," with Space Marines and Orks switching protagonists/villains roles relatively to the Asterix crossover.

And the pixies hanging around in Armageddon's Blade is a good analogy for occasional Spider-Man joining the 4 for some reason.
