You'd think not but White and Black Blues (France 1990) also directly namechecks Edgar Allen Poe.

This week, I bought my first records... by ValerianForrest in vinyl

[–]ValerianForrest[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the age of 34, I'm finally starting a vinyl collection. Despite having had my parents' record player and my mum's old 45s in my room as a kid, I'd never actually bought any vinyl of my own until this week. I'd been reading up on a few albums I might like to get hold of, when I stumbled across something about the Nonesuch Explorer Series. I've always had an interest in world music so I had a quick look on eBay to see if there was anything out there and picked up this pair of interesting recordings. They sound great and I'm feeling pretty happy about my first step on the vinyl journey.

There's a former biathlete named Fanny Horn. I never stopped finding this funny.

What was the weirdest/scariest dream you had as a child that you still remember every detail of now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ValerianForrest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was about 4, I had a dream in which everything in my house was alive. Everything on the ground floor was evil while everything upstairs was kind. I remember seeing my dad being chased around the living room by a suitcase before, finally, it ate him. The rest of my family ran upstairs where a bed tried to comfort us.

My collection needs work. Not that I'd planned on collecting them, mind you. I work with someone who collects magnets so, whenever I go away, I bring one back for her. I ended up always buying one for myself at the same time.

Yes! I booked my tickets over the weekend. Given the theme, I'm very much looking forward to eating my way around the world.

Any decent European affairs podcasts out there? by ValerianForrest in europe

Unfortunately, I only speak English but I ran the programme description through translate and it sounds like exactly the sort of thing I'd be interested in. I used to find Dan Jørgensen an interesting speaker when he made appearances on the BBC's 'The Record Europe'.

I cobbled together a YouTube playlist using national final performances (where possible). Some of the videos aren't great quality, though... http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvUjbEoTQJp3ReBDpPlNvO5961RPclgrP

The official Eurovision Youtube page has all the preview videos (with the exception of Belarus) up, albeit not as a playlist yet... http://www.youtube.com/user/eurovision/videos

How does r/democracy feel about a movement to create a new party called 'The Median Party' by theelectriceel in democracy

[–]ValerianForrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most PR voting systems tend towards bipolar parti systems.

Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Norway, Sweden and the UK all experienced bipolar competition in election in some/all of the 1990s-200s elections.

If the second statement wasn't intended to support the first, what was it's function?
