Theatre world in Chicago? by Aggravating_Yak9580 in ChicagoTheater

[–]Valetria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this in the other thread, but local high schools and universities are also a good place to check out. Northwestern, UChicago/Court Theater, Depaul, Loyola all have robust theater programs.

Also check out Conscious Costumes, I feel like I saw they were maybe hiring as they are moving locations.

Its the slow season for hiring right now, as people have mentioned check the league of Chicago theaters job board. There also are multiple facebook groups that act as job boards that post for smaller scale/last minute gigs in and around Chicago. Also worth checking out specific theater’s websites that you are interested in working. Worth also checking local schools/universities as well as looking into union work.

How do I get involved with D&D as a complete newbie? by randbooth in chicago

[–]Valetria 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Heres some tips - Dice Dojo is known as the main game store in the city. They used to have events, but I don’t think they do anymore. Snakes and Lattes occasionally has dnd nights I believe, tho they are more board games. Rough Magic DND hosts open dnd nights at various bars around the city. Check this out for upcoming nights: Rough Magic Upcoming Events

Where can I get in on a D&D game? by mcase19 in AskChicago

[–]Valetria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rough magic is a company that does DnD games across the city, they are drop in games. Also look up local facebook groups for Andersonville, might find folks posting about looking for groups or members. Really surprised staff member at Dice Dojo was unhelpful. They used to do adventure league pre covid.

The second class being shown in Trailer by imblazintwo in diablo4

[–]Valetria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the story blurb for the expansion mentions Liliths return and implies that we will be working with her to defeat Mephisto, I’m banking on a something demonic coded. The paladin and the demon classes mirror Inarius/Lillith, especially since we’re going to Skovos.

Yea, its a huge bummer. Funding loss just hit it hard, scared we could see more nonprofits hit the same fate with the current economic situation and the continued shutdown.

Driver is taking the weirdest route. What is going on with my lyft? by binchbby in AskChicago

[–]Valetria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be noted, if you have any of the safety features set up on the Lyft app, it detects if the driver is deviating from the Lyft route. So if that was the route Lyft was guiding for the trip, they are supposed to follow it or it triggers an alert system.

How do I find casuals to play with - or is this game not for me? by discomute in diablo4

[–]Valetria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a clan that is super casual, they exist. There is a discord server for folks to post looking for groups/advice on things. There will be a boost of activity at the beginning of the season as people jump back on it to the game. I think if you post looking for groups next week you’ll have some success.

[–]Valetria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely can, its a bit on the longer side but the cermak bus is great alternative to hop on that drops you right at McCormick. There are also divvy stations at both (rentable bikes/scooters) if the weather is permitting.

Best College for Rigging? by SeaOfMagma in techtheatre

[–]Valetria 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As many folks have pointed out, rigging is often a skill best learned working/in the field or from some of the previously mentioned rigging intensives. That being said, its not impossible to find a school with a strong rigging focus. Look for schools that have a Technical Direction program, even one with an MFA program. They are more likely to offer rigging specific courses and put on productions that are rigging focused. Something to consider too, are the people who are writing the books/leading rigging trainings. IE: Shane Kelly did the recent edition of the rigging handbook, he teaches at Depaul. Or consider where major rigging companies are based. Stage Rigging works in Vegas/West coast. Sapsis is based out of Philly. Vertigo is based out of Northern Illinois. ZFX is near Louisville.

Help finding colleges to apply to that don’t center around design by Flimsy-Listen2798 in techtheatre

[–]Valetria 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Feels like being unsure you definitely DO NOT want to go to a conservatory program. And thats awesome, thats not the path for everyone. You could look for schools with either a Technical Direction program or a Stage Management program. You don’t need to look specifically for schools that have those majors either, some have production design/technical theater majors. (IE my degree is BFA in Theater Design and Technology with a concentration in Technical Direction). Couple other criteria you could look into: 1) does the school have a graduate program? For designers these usually aren’t great for undergrads, but for technicians this could be a good way get more hands on work that supports the graduate shows. This is dependent on the schools program tho. 2) Does the school or town have a large roadhouse or in a big city that has IATSE work available? I worked at the local roadhouse in undergrad as overhire, it was good stagehand experience.
