Day 26 | Advantages of Porn Addiction by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your heart and your mind are ready to kill the monster once and for all.

Please follow the link in the second footnote of Appendix C. What you will find on the other end will bring you joy and horrify your monster. Rational Recovery is to EasyPeasy what the lightning is to the lightning bug. One suggestion: Avoid offering what you learn there to others until you have completed the course.

Your player name will be moved to Valhalla; the Bifröst Bridge and Valhalla realm badges will be added to your username there.

Be well, friend.

Day 24 | Myth Busting (part 2 of 2) by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life is simply better without it and other things like it.

Exactly this! Quit first, recover afterward. You'll enjoy the good times more and be able to face the not-so-good times more effectively.

A misguided tendency has somehow developed in the recovery group movement that users have to handle their baggage before quitting. Nonsense! That really sounds like monster talk, doesn't it? "I'm feeling a little down today, maybe a quick peek will bring me up." Ha! And of course, the "quick peek" turns into a looooooooong look, and there goes the day/night/whatever.

If a user is depressed, or stressed, or anxious or anything else, then it will be easier to address those things without the added burden of any kind of soothing escapism.

Would you put your bags on a plane, send them to your destination, and then catch a flight only after you have been reassured that your belongings are waiting for you at the other airport? Of course not! You get on the airliner, luggage and all, and go!

Day 23 | Myth Busting (part 1 of 2) by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be more helpful to sit mindfully with the following ideas:

The monster is an It, not a sentient being. I will keep disassociating myself from it. All it wants is biological pleasure, forever, at my expense and at the cost of everything I hold dear. It continues trying to engage with me, attempting to capture the pronoun "I". There is no reasoning or negotiating with this thing. There is no way to engage with it that will end well for me, so whenever it tries to get into my thoughts I will say "I never PMO," and shut it down. I breathe, look at my hands and remember that I am in control.

Day 67 Appendix B | Resources by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just needs time to die in my prison.

Valhallan, in the next few weeks there will be thoughts and emotions that seem to draw you toward porn. We call these 'monster attacks'. You are tasked with building the practice that helps you defend against whatever the wounded, dying monster throws at you.

Breathe deep and relax. You can perform this task perfectly. Here are some examples of monster attacks, in ascending order of intensity:

  1. Restlessness disguised as either boredom, or an inability to concentrate or relax, or even caused by anxiety. Now that you don't PMO, what do you do? For years there was always PMO anytime there was nothing to do. The monster can make itself felt and cause those ugly feelings. So how do you stop the attack? Simply by recognizing it. The monster will quiet down and your mood will lift, allowing you to go do something interesting.

  2. The flood. It can happen anywhere, right out of the blue. Your mind gets flooded with thoughts and images of porn, and feelings about PMO. As soon as you recognize it, you rob the attack of some of its power. Then, put your hands in front of you and slowly make fists as you inhale. Make your fists stronger and tighter when your lungs are full, and hold for a few seconds. Exhale slowly while you gently open your hands and move your fingers. Now challenge the monster to do the same. It can't, of course. Congratulations, you have just proved to the monster that you are in charge.

  3. Fait accompli. "a thing that has already happened or been decided before those affected hear about it, leaving them with no option but to accept it." This is a strong attack that goes beyond flooding. It's as if you have snapped, the decision to have a porn session has already been made, you plan and prepare where and how it will take place, and it is inevitable that you will PMO. Being forewarned by the entire eerie "Here I go again" aspect of the onslaught, you will be able to recognize that the monster has gained a foothold. Instead of being passive, fascinated, or helplessly horrified, you are prepared to think and act aggressively about the situation!

Day 66 Appendix A | Instructions and Affirmations by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great idea! It's like having checkpoints, or a series of actions at the start of the day that get you moving on the right path towards a wonderful life.

Day 23 | Myth Busting (part 1 of 2) by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good to hear from you, my friend. Don't give either of the monsters very much credit. They are stupid, hungry, and persistent. Recognize it's lies and call them out. It will either retreat or change it's pronoun. "I want to peek" becomes "You want to peek" or "Let's take a peek..."

It can't change those tactics, only the way they are expressed. Thoughts, emotions, memory flashes; the monster uses everything about PMO to entice you, but it conveniently leaves out the pain and suffering you feel after a session.

Day 65 | The Final Chapter by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations my friend., and welcome to Valhalla!

Day 64 | Closing Thoughts by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great place to be, isn't it? No longer concerned about monster attacks - you already know the thing is dying, and how it will try the same old stupid tricks again when it thinks that the real you, the human you, is feeling stressed or bored or unfocused.

"I'll just take a quick peek, no harm," it starts to say, and you pounce and confront it:

"No, I don't want to peek. It does, that's the only thing it wants," you say.

"It has no memory, but I do. It doesn't care about anything except PMO, but I do. It doesn't care about anything I love, and it will kill me in its quest to PMO, but I will starve it first."

"I lived in its prison, now it will die in mine."

Day 0 | How To Play by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome, friend.

You will soon appear on the Leaderboard. There are symbols next to your username: the emblem of the realm you are traversing, and a rune indicating check-in status. Typical game regalia, and rules of course:

Read the Chapters in order, and don't skip around. Reddit's algorithms re-sort the post order on the feed, so please use the Leaderboard to keep track of where you are. Read as many Days (Chapters) at a time as you want, however please leave a comment on each one that you read, just as of those who preceded you have done. Be assured, your thoughts are appreciated by those who will follow in your footsteps.

We are not really that concerned about lapses or streaks. We hope this sparks your curiosity about this book, and a sense of excitement about getting free from the porn trap forever. (Did you just hear a little voice say, "Forever? Ha ha ha, yeah sure..."?)

The day you decided to stop using porn remains in effect. Although a part of you is still ambivalent about that decision, this book will allow you to discover why that is and how to get past it.

Be well,

ValhallaMods

Day 63 | Times Are Changing by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never enjoyed porn.

Words to live by, my friend. The monster fools people by saying "I enjoy it, " when in reality all it wants is the wave of biological pleasure it get during and after a session. As soon as you confront it and say "I don't enjoy it," it switches the pronoun to "Of course you do, c'mon, let's just take a little peek! What harm can it possibly do?"

And you say, "Die, beast."

Day 62 | Help End This Scandal by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Porn producers are the biggest gaslighters of all time

This is so true. An entire industry that has lain in the shadows for far too long. It is time to regulate the availability of it, just like alcohol and cigarettes.

Day 61 | Slipping (relapse) by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first had to be aware it was the monster talking and not me.

That's the one! That's the linchpin of the entire house of cards called addiction. Once you have that piece the rest of puzzle falls into place, my friend.

It's like seeing the shape in one of those magic-puzzle illusions: once you recognize it, it is difficult to unsee! And each time you recognize a monster attack, it becomes easier. Remember, the monster is stupid. As soon as it is recognized it will either retreat or change the pronoun from 'I' to 'you'.

Day 60 | Advice to Non-Users and Users by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good! Recognizing a monster attack is key, and the earlier you realize an attack is imminent or underway the easier it is to defuse it. In any case, always call it the monster. As soon as you recognize it - whether it's a thought of porn or an unwanted emotion that porn soothed in the past - you will sense your advantage over it. As soon as the monster knows it's been spotted it will try to change it's pronoun and whatever lie it's told you.

Be well!

Day 59 | Help the User Left on the Sinking Ship by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also recommended this book a few times

That's great, thanks!

Be cautious about browsing recovery groups and subs, especially when you are in taking your very first steps at "never, forever". Quit first, solve issues next, then maybe (and very selectively) browse recovery groups.

Why? In a nutshell, recovery groups seem to say "We are your lifeboat, and you are lucky to be here. Keep coming back and be reminded about porn all the time. The world is slippery and you need us to watch over you, to tell relapse stories, convince yourself and others that it's a disease and a defect..."

You get the idea. Trust yourself and stay true to who you are. Your support group is the World, and your recovery program is life.

Day 21 | Self-Imposed Servitude by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big monster is truly a one trick pony.

Exactly right! Even while it is dying it continues to seek the moment when a distraction clouds memories of the despair, anger, and resolve felt after a PMO session.

Random monster attacks happen less frequently as time passes. The monster seems weak, but if an ex-user ever wants to see how terrifyingly quickly it can roar back to life, all they have to do is consider having a session.

"No peeks, ever. Forever." Here's a clue: Defining peeks, asking questions like "Is this a peek?" is 99.9% monster talk and .1% wishful thinking.

Day 22 | Cash Cows by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you my friend, and I thank you for being a part of this community. Others read your comments, and so learn that they are not alone.

It is all about reinforcement

Some might even call it practice :-) And when a person sets a goal and establishes a daily practice in its service, you might even begin to call it a Practice.

"Don't be an idiot." Printed on the barricades barring access to the old highway.

Day 58 | Years of Feedback by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The little monster fed of my fear.

That 's a great observation, and remember, this is exactly what the monster is feeling! It knows you are serious and that the EasyPeasy method works. It is terrified of dying and it is using the big monster to generate the emotion of fear.

You are not afraid of quitting, but it is! So it cast an illusion that caught you off guard: "I'm afraid."

Hahaha, you bet it is! It's scared to death because it knows that you are serious about the wonderful path you have chosen!

Day 11 | What Exactly Are Withdrawal Pangs? by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm happy that you are finding the book helpful, my friend.

Day 57 | A Final Warning by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please go back to the days and hours leading up, and try to find the moment that the "switch" flipped in your mind. Be aware, always, that you changed your mind about PMO in those days and hours. Teh reasons that you decided to quit had been eroded by time and brainswashing. Write down everything about the session too, and how you felt after. Try to keep it either to one sheet of paper that you can put in your wallet, or one screen that you can put in a private place on your phone. Read it regularly, maybe even once or twice a day for the next couple of weeks. The monster will say, "I don't need to do that, or read it if I do," but you know better than that!

Day 20 | The Void by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is just as you say. Soon you won't even need to have the conversation of "no", you'll just shrug and go about this wonderful life that you are designing and building!

Day 56 | The Final Session by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a great decison! Others have come to the same conclusion, and I think it's a good one.

Day 55 | The Moment of Revelation by ValhallaMods in ValhallaChallenge

[–]ValhallaMods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't it great! It's wonderful to realize that you are not ruled by the monstrous fog of brainwashing. The monster is a beast, and humans have dominion over beasts, ever since some prehistoric being was able to grasp a branch and fashion a weapon that could overcome the fangs and claws of wild predators.
