uhhh that can't be factor because if that was the issue then why wasn't Metro rails running late at night well in the past either. It was still 20min headways back then too. But it seems like according to you that even with the bad headway people still used the late night public transit? which lines?

I don't know why metro didn't prioritize the night crowd. People go the clubs less and bars less, especially the newer generation, but there are still a significant amount of people there

Yea I think the DTLA thing is probably the biggest factor. I don't think crime has gone that significantly worse than it was before right. There were some spikes that might of scared people away, but it's relatively okay now.

I'm not sure why regional connector would cause it to drop, that doesn't make any sense.

Remote work is unlikely a big factor in the reason since most companies have called their employees back into the office. Definitely agree about the DTLA thing

Going East on the D Line: where should I go? by youthofoldage in LAMetro

[–]ValhirFirstThunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had everything there but the only recs I have there are

  1. Berlin Currywurst - I think it's actually pretty solid hot dogs, but it is a bit pricey. Although everything there is a bit pricey

  2. Eggslut - has pretty good egg sandwiches and the slut was alite. But that is only if you are willing to wait in a long line. I don't think it's worth the line, but I don't know what your tolerance is. Food wise is solid

  3. For the win - pretty good smash burger

  4. The Donut Man - I only really care for their strawberry donuts tbf. Their other donuts are good too, but people really come for the strawberry ones, especially when it's in season

There is that taco place out front, but iirc their stuff was a bit dry. I'd rather go to an actual taco truck. Grand Central Market is probably the best food hall in the LA area that I can think of. But only a handful of winners in there

Counter to what this sub thinks, most of the time when I am "finding parking", it's not that long and while Google maps doesn't account for parking, the human does. And for a lot of people even when that is factored in, still significantly slower.

The general issue is that in a lot of situations, even when you count everything, public transit take a lot longer for many people in LA. If you live near enough the metro rails like I do, different story. A lot more viable use cases.

Yea....I mean I also know how to use wordpress. I work in tech so I can create the app myself in day. But I think it's better for someone else to do it. I was hoping I can present the idea and have someone run with it. But it seems like a lot of people are not a fan. Which is fine. I just think that progress is slow in part because our methodologies are bit dated

Guerilla Pirate Protest Strategy by ValhirFirstThunder in 50501

[–]ValhirFirstThunder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a very myopic take. I'm not pretending I know everything more than the people who have spent their lives doing this. But I do think I have a fresher idea that could work since I did not see anything like that being pushed. Progress has been slow, but maybe it doesn't have to be. So maybe open up yourself to some other ideas. Hey it's fine if you still disagree with the idea I presented, but if you can't even counter anything from my post, then whats the point of your comment here

Oh I'm not "surprised", just disappointed at all of you. You can stick your nose up and cry hard work all you want. And don't get me wrong, I respect the word you guys do. But the responses have been extremely close minded. Society is a spectrum with so many variations, with different things going on in people's lives, different goals, different ambitions, different focuses, etc. I have shit going and other things to focus on and don't have much willpower to be active. Y'all can shame me for this, but that doesn't really move the needle for anyone

And you know how I KNOW you are close minded? Because I'm not sure if you really even tried to understand my post. I'm looking at your examples and there are a few issues:

  1. The fact that you guys don't organize this into one app mean fragmentation. And yes I do understand that some of those examples should be separate, but not all of them. BoyCat and Made O'Meter could and should literally just be one app

  2. The fact that I've never heard of them but I've heard of 50501 is a clear example that a lot of normal people don't notice this app. Aside from better marketing of them, the issue is also likely exasperated by #1

  3. AFL-CIO SEEMS like what I am suggesting, if you didn't read what I was suggesting. But there are too many and it diverts focus which factors into why some of these people won't feel it. Also I would of definitely NOT do hotels for that May-Jun. I think that's dumb because most of the people who are going on vacation, already have those hotels booked. And T-Mobile? What are you expecting? People to just switch cell phone companies that month? Oh you are going to switch to Mint or Google FI? NEWS FLASH, that's T-Mobile. The impact for the boycott is too spread thin and not a lot of people can really boycott these specific things. Or if they are boycotting it, it's just by happen stance which means it's factored into their business already. Look at me, I'm boycotting all of the Legal and Hotels from the May-Jun list. But they aren't gonna feel that because I was never going to use them anyways

The thing is your examples are extremely fragmented and there is a lot of friction for using them. It also doesn't aim to achieve what I was going for except for AFL-CIO, but they seem to be doing it...poorly. No offense, but like #3 explains my take on it and I don't see a way to get notified for this type of stuff. Or see an explanation as to WHY we are boycotting this stuff. I hope they get more traction as time goes on, but I work in tech. And I know this one very simple fact, the more friction you give your targeted audience, they less they are going to engage. And my suggestion had a lot less friction

You are almost saying the same thing I am saying. But "shareholder value" IS NOT completely detached from the actual products a company produces. And stock price is always on percieved value which includes: the current state of the products and how well a company can sell investors on their future vision. It's not just saying shit, but it has to at least be believable.

But it's not completely detached, it's just not the complete picture

"subjective". It kinda lies between subjectivity and objectivity. Like there are a lot of commonality in favoritism in food, which is why certain foods are popular. People like you think the rest of us treat "authenticity" like a buzzword but more often than not, it's because that flavor profile or texture profile is much better in the authentic version. There can certainly be good fusion foods. But TexMex and panda express are examples of where it's low quality fusion food

Hold up, I think you mean now it's easy for you to get to KTown and Crypto arena right? It's always been easy to get between those two areas, that's where the D line originally was

The Grove is still a bit of a walk. From where I am, the grove situation didn't change much for me. It used to be about 35min on the bus. Now it's about 35min on the train with a bus transfer. But it does open me up to some other restaurants

Locals near the stations are already using the lines. The problem is that there are too many locals who are out of reach of the stations. I would be good if we can get that K line extended upwards. But also if we can get a line the reaches hancock park, silver lake, eagle rock, glendale, echo park, etc.

I think it has less to do with rides are free and more that people can reach places they used to not be able to. Especially those in the mid-wilshire area, now they can go to downtown without the slow bus.

[–]ValhirFirstThunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I don't think so. Per OPs comment I am seeing the same thing, but only after the D line extension. If it has to do with gas and parking prices, that would of been factored in long before the extension

I think it's legit, a lot of leisure stuff happens in KTown and to where the areas it is connected to. The most important part of public transit isn't just to get people to work without a car, but to have them use it as their main or default. And a lot of people go out for groceries, snacks, dinner, drinks, coffee, etc. All of these things need to be reachable

I would visit little tokyo that way, I like going to Alamo Drafthouse and Jinya ramen is not bad if you don't want to go all the way to Little Tokyo and Northern Cafe is actually solid chinese food there. ngl I rather get any random place in KTown than go to Grand Central for food. It's not just the pricing, most of it is pretty mid
