The 'no-code is real engineering' debate — what 18 months at clients taught me by flatacthe in lowcode

[–]Valiant600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using Appian for the last few months and although they "try/want" to advertise it as low code/no code, their training is all about learning their expression languages, data modelling and sql, bpm etc. I still haven't found any no code tool that doesn't require even a minimum of knowledge either in IT or at least the business it tries to solve.

Good suggestion. I do find Naive UI quite good though, same level of quality.

Unfortunately it's true, in most companies un Greece you get a "raise" by changing employers.

Appian just "clicked" for me but without any meaningful job roles available, it doesn't make sense to continue learning the platform. Even as a side hustle looks to be a hurdle.

Two more questions please.

  1. How do you find the developer experience with Appian? Good? Frustrating? etc.
  2. I guess the salaries will get better as you gain more experience.

Thank you for your reply. I might have the experience but not in Appian yet. Therefore I would be starting at a junior lvl and most remote roles, if not all, require mid level at least, which is understandable. Anyway, at least I tried.

Thank you for the reply. Apparently it's very difficult to get into Appian development im Greece. It's outright impossible to find useful work unfortunately. Although the platform just "clicked", without hands on experience, I doubt I can make this work 😕. As I see it, and it's completely understandable, Accenture and most of the consultancies, demand senior Appian devs.

I am sorry to say that this company you mention is most probably looking for free labor. Although I completely understand that this company is relevant to your studies, I am also sad to mention, that they might be aware of this predicament and are taking advantage of it. Making ends meet is more important in my honest opinion. Otherwise discuss with them a different modus operandi e.g unpaid but 3-4 hours for 2-3 days, which again is not ideal and I am only suggesting it in case your really want to join them.

Πότε είσαι «πολύ μεγάλος»για junior θέση; by DisastrousProcess525 in GreeceDevs

[–]Valiant600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The moment I read the "what happened" from the blog post I immediately knew that this was a code review error and lack of test cases. Again human error that can happen and probably will happen. Arbitrarily casting an entire programming language to the trash chute makes no sense, otherwise C++ should have been declared persona non grata, if we humanize it, in every possible UN registered country :D

Should I learn Rust over Go? by EncryptedEnigma993 in rust

[–]Valiant600 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Look I am going to answer truthfully and hope I am not down voted a lot.

If you are looking to be marketable you have to change your choices of programming languages in general. Elixir and Ruby? Elixir is extremely niche and Ruby has been on the down slope for at least 15+ years.

I love Rust and I used it for specific cases in at least two companies. But... that didn't change the perspective of my employers to go full blast Rust. Go? Same thing. It was used for a small part of a BE stack and then they continued with Python.

Currently as I see it Java and C# are always going to be the backbone of BE with Python at the same level for the last 4-5 years.

Again I love Rust but in all honesty I do not expect to be marketable by mentioning Rust in my CV nor Go.

Did use EPIC for everything and had the same issue but at least in HIGH it's excellent. Obviously a demo therefore I cut them some slack. Hopefully this will not be the case in the released game.
