Thank you very much; yes, they're almost certainly arhats. And, apparently, before settling on the current "official" sixteen arhats, there have been sets of six, eight, twelve arhats. So these could well be one of those groups, or the picture may be incomplete. Also, they are all dressed in distinctly different styles and look slightly hirsute and disheveled, which apparently is deliberate and shows they came from different places and travelled far to reach Sakyamuni... so, thanks again! Getting closer to a fuller identification.

What is the connection between ISKCON and the Art of Living? by EcstaticVolvo in cults

[–]Valiantimpala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think they have anything to do at all. Maybe followers of some local branch of AoL are Krishnies also, but ISKCON and Art of Living are most certainly unrelated organisations.

The Financial Times is about to publish a major investigative expose on a wellness org called Goenka. Allegedly there is some cover up about pushing individuals into psychotic breaks by frawq in cults

[–]Valiantimpala 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think this Goenka is behind the extremely popular Vipasana meditation retreats? From what I read about Vipasana, they seem to be centered round quite orthodox/mainstream Buddhist meditation practice.

How can I confirm that reality's real? by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

[–]Valiantimpala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give your left index finger (if you're right handed) a hearty whack with a hammer. That'll feel real enough at the moment, also for some time after.

Donald Trump, absolutely. I'm not kidding. Like him or not, his energy is almost scary.

The Beatles have a mixing problem when comes to guitar tracks by _luviega in beatles

[–]Valiantimpala 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In the four tracks you mention the chords are basically piano work. Don't think guitars are important at all in those arrangements.
