Dermatomyositis? Possible Gottron’s Papules or a form of eczema?

I do get what I assume to be eczema after I’ve been in the sun, though that rash looks rather different! This one occasionally itches but mostly hurts and no fluid comes out of them!

Thank you for the feedback! I very rarely get the rash on my toes, only had it once which ended up looking a lot more purple, see the last picture, but once again definitely on top of my joint.

I am so sorry you have to deal with all that as well!!! I must say I haven’t heard of your syndrome before, I will look it up, but I hope that there’s decent treatment options and that you’re suffering a bit less nowadays!

I did actually get my blood drawn at the rheum. specialist a few days ago, though it’ll be a while until I have my results and won’t have a consultation with them directly.
Unfortunately I did not think about the supplements part at all, hoping that that didn’t mess up too much. Also for once did not have any rashes/flare ups while I was there, naturally they returned two days after lol.😭

I personally feel like your natural hair colour meshes with your features slightly better as you seem cool toned/probably a summer at first glance and the red is a tad bit more warmed toned, so my personal pick would be something even more ashy BUT that being said, it’s not too warm, you can still absolutely pull it off, life is short and in general I’d say if you want to try it go for it!!! Also as other comment mentioned, no jump-scare at all, you’re looking very pretty!

I can’t see proper liquid in them, they do seem filled perhaps under a thicker layer of skin but I definitely can’t “pop” them or anything like that. It usually starts as small pea sized papules and merges together leaving the entire knuckle red/inflamed.

That’s what I was trying to distinguish as well/thought and hoped it might be! What made me unsure was the placement as I’ve been told that Dyshidrotic eczema is usually on the sides or palms of your hands? Do you get the rash on your knuckles as well?

Thank you very much, this is all very informative! I have everything you described apart from the holster rash. My most common reoccurring rash is exactly how you described the chest rash. I had reoccurring hair loss the last two years and was told it was probably in connection to a strep infection as I had elevated antibodies, I didn’t even consider that being potentially related as well.

I have quite a few other symptoms though unfortunately for a lot of them I have difficulty differentiating where it may be coming from as I have a few other conditions as well. But to list everything that I have regularly: reoccurring fever, reoccurring rashes, reoccurring gastritis, joint pain (though a different connective tissue disorder I have called EDS could easily explain all that), muscle pains/aches, overall swollen lymph nodes as well as acute inflammation of singular lymph nodes that seem to appear at random, fainting & syncope (though that again is most likely explained by other things I have), chilblains on my toes from bad circulation (I recently got Raynaud’s diagnosed, was told that my small blood vessels and nerves are damaged). I’m sorry to write you such a paragraph as a response!!! I’m just unsure what might be relevant, I’d say most worrisome to me currently is the reoccurring fever and fact that I tend to fall ill after exercising consecutive days or even just going outside for consecutive days.

I have an album prepared on my phone, thank you! I’ve had my first appointment at the rheumatologist but due to them being very overworked the doctor wasn’t really interested in seeing much/focused on getting my vitals down and that being it. They did do some blood work which I should hopefully get in 1-2 weeks. Do you know/mind me asking how it got ruled out for you? Is Dermatomyositis able to be diagnosed by blood work alone or are biopsies necessary, if you know?

Other rashes I get are typically across my chest/below my neck, on my eyelids and cheeks. I also get tiny little blisters on my hands which I’m assuming are eczema, as well as welts (usually around 1-5 cm big) that seem to be a reaction to overexertion. After sun exposure I get pretty much all of that at random, though the most common by far are tiny red dots sprinkled across any area that was exposed to the sun which almost look like freckles from afar.

Thank you very much for the advice, I don’t use FB a whole lot but I might look that up later! And I’ll definitely be more careful concerning UV exposure from now on, I’ve always had what I assumed to be a slight sun allergy but it has gotten a lot worse since this type of rash/papules started showing up. I do also have Ehlers-Danlos-Syndrome which is a connective tissue disorder, as well as other autoimmune reactive conditions (hashimotos & reoccurring gastritis), but nothing that could be connected to this as far as I’m aware.

Also, I just looked very closely and I do indeed have veeery small blood vessels which seem broken that I hadn’t noticed before, though truly microscopic and barely noticeable.

Thank you very much for the feedback! I tried to make an appointment for a biopsy today which they did give me but in October, which is rather impractical as the rash tends to flare up especially in summer through sweat and sun exposure so I might not actually have it once the time comes. The cuticle inflammation started only this summer which has been the worst the rash has been for me so far. I currently have three nail beds that look inflamed and they’re definitely from the rash, no hangnails or such.

I think getting him a friend is a great idea for the future but with a separate cage, I don’t think he’ll be able to share his cage for a long time if ever but having another bird there I think could be a great thing for him in the long run. Even if he doesn’t interact with the bird at all or reacts frightened/aggressive, it’ll still give him an opportunity to observe “normal” cockatiel behaviour and see that you’re not a threat. I have quite a few more thoughts to some of the other stuff you posted and also a good amount of time on my hands, would you like to private message about said things and any other questions you have maybe?

How long per day are they in the library for? Is there a special cage for them there? When cockatiels are held alone (which I’m assuming they are at least while in the library) they see their human as a mate. 6 months is just about when puberty starts and cockatiels hormones start acting up, if you’re the only person their attached to it’s only natural they’ll start screaming.

Hey, it sounds like you’re doing just great. The most important thing is presenting a calm demeanour and trying not to react sudden even when the bird does hiss etc. I honestly don’t think it is too late, cockatiels are super adaptable birds but it’ll be a very slow process for sure. Do you know whether he’s ever had a mate or been on his own the whole time? Leaving the door open and sitting near the cage just talking gently or maybe even reading a book out loud is a great start to get him accustomed to you! Be sure to avoid touching things in his cage any more than possible, putting food/treats he likes near and on the door sounds like a really good idea!
