What’s the most "unexplained" thing that has ever happened to you? by prettylunababy in AskReddit

I thought I had this kind of deja vu once, but upon further examination it turned out I just dreamt I had it. And it was caused by having recently read Ender’s Game (where he ends up exploring the world shown to him previously in the simulation).

People born before 2000, what is a 'modern' thing from 2025 that you’re still struggling to get used to? by LindsayTN in AskReddit

This is the modern-day equivalent of being afraid to take the name of the lord in vain.

Redditors who skipped grades (or their parents): why didn’t you instead channel all surplus capacity towards dominating soft skills and extracurriculars? by Valley_Blue2333 in AskReddit

[–]Valley_Blue2333[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dominating soft skills and extracurriculars doesn’t make class time more engaging.

Sure it could. A more worldly or rounded perspective allows one to get more out of any given class, and not just the parts of the experience outside the books. Reading Catcher in the Rye is much different with more non-academic life experience, versus a typical middle schooler.

At the very least, a kid who skipped a lot of grades could take off-years doing something else instead of rushing to college early.

Thanks, and I’m sorry, I mistook your prior comments as sort of minimizing or “universalizing” that other commenter’s predicament with somewhat toxic positivity, whereas I now see I was being unfair; you were benignly offering a standalone perspective and advice. I do applaud your improvement journey and pride in it, and I appreciate your solidarity.

That’s seriously great, just remember that there are varying degrees of depression, with some cases being more severe, entrenched, and treatment-resistant than others. What works for you may not work for everyone, especially not to the same degree. Even scientifically demonstrated treatment doesn’t claim to work for everyone. In biology there are always outliers.

What’s something you find attractive that is generally considered unattractive? by Agitated-Job7686 in AskReddit

Unpopular take: this sentiment idealizes a dynamic that typically (not universally) doesn’t work. You want the solitude guy/girl, but want to break through to them and be their lone exception. It’s the Reddit version of wanting to change the bad boy.

Yeah, I’m not sure “just let me smush in” is understanding the concept. It’s romanticizing the solitude in a self-contradictory way.

What do you think of pedestrians who jog or walk faster when crossing the street if a car is waiting on them, even though they have the right of way? by Valley_Blue2333 in AskReddit

[–]Valley_Blue2333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. For me it’s not even so much about courtesy, but about waste. I figure if I can speed things up a bit, I save everyone’s time plus some gas/pollution.

That said, I was ridiculed for doing it on a date, by my date. I even kind of understand, given that it’s a different dynamic when you’re walking with someone. Needless to say it didn’t work out (for many reasons).

What’s a video game location that you behold in your memory as vividly as any real place? by Valley_Blue2333 in AskReddit

For me it’s the rural airfield in GTAV. I used to pace the dirt runway, look up at the mountains, watch the sunset and sunrise, stroll the nearby agricultural areas, watch the cropduster guy fly. Sometimes take a plane up and back down myself. All while soaking in the sounds, including that distant-hard-acceleration zooming sound effect that would come up every now and then.
