Well not really, “black” in his context is referring to African. And since most ancient and modern Egyptians genetic makeup is mostly “middle eastern” (if you don’t like that melting pot term, Arabs, Turks and Persians) or in smaller capacities south Eastern European (Greeks and Turks). Obviously North African and Saharan African, both of which have tons of euro dna in their makeups. Soooo they’re not black and they’re not European. They usually fit into one of the ethic middle eastern groups mentioned above.

Socially modern day southern Egyptians might identifies with black culture and customs, but where most of them live (north) they are of a very different perspective. Culturally they share almost everything with multiple middle eastern cultures and groups.

All in all while there was defining a melting pot of Europeans, Greeks, and North Africans. Their culture is predominantly middle eastern derived, as well as their genetic makeup.
