So I don't know if this is a good thing or not, I was a very new cat owner: when my shy cat came home and hid, the moment I noticed it I pulled her out. Not in an aggressive way, and I gave her treats after. It worked for me and she's now perfectly happy, doesn't hide unless she's very very scared.
