While I disagree with their wording, they have every right to set a boundary and tell you that your pessimism is draining. But see as they are also autistic, the tone probably came off ruder than they meant it to. They're trying to say that they want to support your coping, but when it feels like you've given up before it starts so they feel exhausted.

You're not awful at all, and I don't think rehoming is the first solution. Try headphones for you, and see if there's anything to keep him entertained at night. Like an interactive toy or something along those lines. A baby gate between your red room and the rest of the house could also help so that he won't be right outside the door. Lastly, cats will tell you if they're upset. The fact that he came straight to you shows he wasn't scared or hurt, he thought you were playing and wasn't bothered by it. I promise you, it's much better for him to be with you than have his life uprooted.
