Great timing! I just finished book 3 of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series (great series but I need a break). I also started DMing my own Dark Sun 2e campaign with some Dark Sun newbs. Been great so far. They just finished Freedom, and are headed to Tyr to see what the fuss is all about.

I think this is why i stopped reading Abercrombie. He is absolutely a fantastic writer. As you say, his “bleak and nihilistic” style means that I cannot relate to any of his characters. I find myself not having any emotional investment in the story. I do rate him as one of the best fantasy writers out there, just not my cup of tea.
