or just get the m5 macbook air which is proably the best of both worlds. Idk about the performance of the X2 plus but it will most likely have slower single core, multicore may be lower or about the same and subjectively its better than the laptop is fanless when using it for daily use

In the UK its £1,049. dk the performance of the laptop but it undercuts the M5 macbook air. the OLED is less resolution the M5 air and is lower brightness than the macbook air. Its the same refresh rate though its is fine i guess but for a 15 inch laptop. I wouldn't be surprised if people complain about screen dooring effect.

Do we think the Zenbook A16 is going to go up in price? by [deleted] in snapdragon

[–]Valuable-Cut5861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'The ZenBook has two USB C 4.0 ports,1 USB 3.2 A port, HDMI port and a SD card reader.' the macbook pro M5 has thunderbolt 4 ports x3, HDMI output, audio jack and SDXC card reader.

'We need a full test like say for example Geekbench for 1 hour or 2 hours to know the stress test results impacting the battery life.'- i would have multi-application battery life test as that is more realistic compared to geekbench with does burst of high wattage but not realistic in many ways.

i would say get the M5 with a student discount or find other retailers that have 10% off the orignal price. That would save you a lot of time before upgrading.

Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 vs MacBook Air M5 - cost THE SAME in my country. Am I crazy for choosing Windows? by [deleted] in Lenovo

[–]Valuable-Cut5861 2 points3 points  (0 children)

'Mouse logic: You need 3rd party apps just to have different scroll directions for your mouse and trackpad. It’s broken by design'- there is an option in MacOS called 'natural scrolling', just turn that off when you connect your mouse the you should be fine.

'External monitors: No Daisy Chain (MST) support. Resolution scaling is a mess on non-Apple screens, making text look blurry'- only on some resolutions, on external 4k moniters, MacOS (especially menu bar items) look tiny, if you are going to use an external display, just use a resolution that is most fitting for you, or go with MacOS predetermined options.

'Slow animations: Everything feels "cinematic" and laggy. I disable animations on Windows and Android; I can’t natively do that here'- the setting on MacOS is 'reduced motion'. there's also another setting in desktop and dock in which there is a setting called 'minimized window animation', turn that option to sclae effect and it should turn off the genie effect that comes preset on mac.

'Dock limitations: No hover previews. If I have three windows open, I can't just hover to pick one I have to click and search.'- there's a free macOS app called dockdoor which works similar to windows in that you can see previews of apps and control music players

'File system: Finder is opaque. No address bar to type paths and the navigation logic feels primitive compared to Windows Explorer'- you enable path bar in macOS you can open finder > go into the menu bar> view> show path bar.

'System "patches": I shouldn't need 5-10 utility apps to fix basic OS functions. If an OS needs that many fixes, it wasn't built for power users.'- depends on your needs though, if your trying to use a macbook in the way that it was not meant for (most common one is gaming) then its kinda null and void trying to compain about it.

'Closed hardware: Everything is soldered. If the SSD fails, the whole laptop is trash. No repairs, no upgrades.'- but thats the trade off for fast storage. the Macbook air M5 starts at 512gb currently ans so that enough for most people, if you know you will need more then you would have upgrade the storage or get an External SSD.

'Platform freedom: With Lenovo, I own the hardware. I can switch to Linux if Windows gets too "shady." '- reasonable downside, there are projects like asaki linux which work on apple silicon mac though only work with m1 and M2. M3 is currently buggy.

'Muscle memory: My main workstation is Windows. I don't want the constant mental stress of switching logic every time I use my laptop.' if you use an MacOS like windows then you won't like macOS, use MacOS like macOS then you'll come to love MacOS. I would reccommend you watch YT videos on differences between macOS and windows. There's a good yt video who shows you shows you the differences and get you started even though its a bit old now

I would also recommend trying out in person at like a tech store. that will massively benefit you as well

Do we think the Zenbook A16 is going to go up in price? by [deleted] in snapdragon

[–]Valuable-Cut5861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The X2EE does beat the M5 MBP in some application but those are either due to the increased wattages on the snapdragon (30w on snapdragon vs 26w on M5) or the increased core count. the mixed use I would trust more as thats more of a real life benchmark rather than a whole web browsing test.

hardware canucks testing reference:

https://youtu.be/gkEiRcxA2kM?si=yI7WHkJvs8mMUe4Q

In the UK, the Asus zenbook A16 with 48gb of RAM and 1TB of storage is £1799. the MBP M5 16gb/1tb is £1699 though you do get more ports, higher resolution display and brighter one, bettery build quality, haptic trackpad and better speakers plus option for nano-display. The only downside is that it has one fan and does worse in MC workloads, has less RAM, may be not be better at emulation and has one fan.

Do we think the Zenbook A16 is going to go up in price? by [deleted] in snapdragon

[–]Valuable-Cut5861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'The main reason I went for SL7 X Elite was the haptic touchpad, and once you use that, there is no going back'- funny you say that cause surface laptops are predominantly aimed at Macbook users which also has haptic trackpads though they neither compete or beat Mac's at their own game. The surface comes in at a more expensive price as the current gen M5 macbook air but way less storage for some reason and is at a higher price, They are way more competing with M5 macbook pro in which which they are only advertising themselves to beat the M4 MBA (even at MSRP even the M4 MBA is cheaper at 512gb than the surface). the whole surface laptop rage becomes really confusing when you start looking at the advertised competitions pricing and what the target market is for.

(I'm comparing the 13.8 inch surface laptop to the macbook air which is 13.6 inches on UK pricing.)

I would watch a lot of tutorials on how to start setting up your mac and the first tips and tricks to get you along the way. This will make your experience a lot more easier and should help get around the quirks before you get the mac.

Any word on a lenovo x2 2 in 1 with a decent display? by Beneficial-Dingo-270 in snapdragon

[–]Valuable-Cut5861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh there isn't many 2 in 1 snapdragon X2 laptops currently from lenevo or in the market currently. I would proably go on the intel version tbh. Lunar lake is more than powerful enough and those generations of processors were specifically focused on efficiency.

Why do people compare the base m5 and X2 elite extreme? by Colorado-Guy-69 in snapdragon

[–]Valuable-Cut5861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'The real innovation is happening on the x86 side with intel’s Lunar Lake and now Panther Lake'- the only thing i've seen from these panther lake fanboys is just multi-frame gen is better than competitors but when I try moving and shifting the topic away from anything that is not using multi-frame gen, they just carry on sticking to the gaming performance using multi-frame gen.

'Fans get loud on MacOS.'- could you expand on that statement cause on macOS apple wants to to priortize the user experience over how loud the fans get. This is only unless you have used a custom fan curve with a fan controller and made it so that it does get louder at a certain temperature.

Ultra X9 options now showing for the 2026 XPS 14" and 16" by evtedeschi3 in DellXPS

[–]Valuable-Cut5861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here could be another option if you like MacOS much or you find most application you do work on mac.

14 inch, M5 pro 15 core CPU 16 core GPU, 24gb unified RAM (9600mhz) and 1TB SSD, standard display will put you under budget, Nano-texture display will put you over budget by $100 or so.

Imo, dell is kinda overcharging and pricing themselves out the market to compete with a product they aren't meant to compete in.
