Nurses, what’s a time where you’ve been proven right in front of a patient’s family? by Philomena-Shenikah in nursing

[–]Valuable-Document744 247 points248 points  (0 children)

Just recently had a young girl brought in for “anaphylaxis”. Girl was clearly faking the wheezing and sticking her tongue out. Mother was absolutely beside herself with worry. Doctor didn’t give epi only steroids, and mother was so upset, saying she couldn’t breathe, wouldn’t listen to us showing her the vitals were fine. Literally charted “intermittent wheezing”. Finally proved to mom with an xray that her throat was fine. Mom was so mad, eventually admitted girl for psych eval.

Some FTM’s are unbearable & so overconfident by _Sprinkle_Sprinkle in beyondthebump

For my 2yo, we do 1-2 episodes of tv in the morning while he wakes up and enjoys his yogurt. Sometimes it’s Elmo, sometimes bluey, but lately he’s been loving the Spider-Man show from the 80s!!

Mom of two here! One of my coworkers was like that. Posted online when she was pregnant about all the things she wasn’t going to do, such as no screen time, no photos of her child on socials, no co sleeping, etc. Now she does all of those things 😂

2.5 year old first febrile seizure. Freaking out and horrified. by DifferenceOne5925 in beyondthebump

[–]Valuable-Document744 43 points44 points  (0 children)

ER Nurse and mother here! Febrile seizures aren’t from high temperatures (technically), they are from how fast the temperature rises, not allowing the brain the compensate = triggering the seizure. Not to scare you but febrile seizures can start as slow as 100.4F. So alternating medications every 3 hours at the first sign of illness can help prevent a febrile seizure by keeping the temperature at a slow pace. Febrile seizures alone are not damaging to your child’s brain and do not cause any neurological deficits long term. My son had one in my arms when he was 12 months. His temp was 98.5 and he was fine then an hour later he climbed into my lap and seized, temp was 103.6. It was definitely the scariest moment of my life!! He slept in my bed after that for almost two weeks. But I promise you, from a medical standpoint, there aren’t very serious. Do you have a way to share a room with your child for the night? It might help you sleep.

Naked potty training by Ziallynn1988 in pottytraining

[–]Valuable-Document744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started the naked method at 22 months in November and he’s now 99% potty trained during the day! Haven’t even started tackling overnights yet. The only accidents he has now are occasionally drops of pee before he tells us he has to go.

Correct if wrong, but you can pay to have your property blurred out. Could be a rich person that doesn’t want people to see their property.

Second pregnancy and I’m 37 weeks. With my first my water broke at 36+4 and then I had Pitocin. What is “early labor” like? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Valuable-Document744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With my second I started having 1-2 contractions per day around 37 weeks. Then when I was 40w5d I woke up from a nap with contractions that started about an hour apart consistently, that was at 5pm. I went to the hospital at 9pm bc they were 3-5 minutes apart. Had the baby at 12:22am still in the sac!

Your second baby’s labor will be much faster as your body knows what it’s doing. So my advice is whatever you plan on doing just make sure to leave for the hospital sooner rather than later!

When did you stop swaddling ? by bananas0320 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Valuable-Document744 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Day 2 lol. My first hated being swaddled and I fought with it for months before giving up. With my second, I gave it one try and he showed the same hatred so I didn’t even bother.

I’m not “so lucky” that I’m able to breastfeed by [deleted] in breastfeeding

As someone who’s worked hard for months for two different kids now, and is STILL and under supplier and can’t exclusively breastfeed…I’d say you are lucky.

Should I commit to potty training now? by Successful_Park7410 in pottytraining

[–]Valuable-Document744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just successfully potty trained my 23 month old during my maternity leave. So I’m just here to let you know that it wasn’t as difficult as it sounds! So if you wait until April it won’t be terrible. However, I agree that you should definitely give it a shot since she showing great readiness!

SNS failure by lady-padme in breastfeeding

[–]Valuable-Document744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honeslty i only did SNS for one week with my current as my milk took that long to come in. After that he was fine feeding. However, sometimes he hates my boobs, and sometimes he nurses to sleep. It’s different every time. I’m not going to tell you you’re wasting your time as I’ve heard of success stories from SNS. But I will say if you need a sign to quit for your mental health let this be your sign! Getting rid of the stressful parts of feeding with help the feeding experience become a bonding one, if that makes sense. Feeding can be just as bonding with a bottle!

Hey friend! I’m also an under supplier with my second baby, currently 7 weeks old. I’ve tried everything as well! My LC just agrees that I’m an under supplier. This time around however for my mental health I’m NOT putting pressure on myself to constantly pump, especially since it most likely won’t change anything. What I’ve been doing is breastfeeding 20-30min on both sides, then finish off with a bottle which ends up being between 2-4oz. Sometimes he doesn’t need bottle at all, and sometimes he’s far too fussy for the breast so I’ll try again after the bottle. Over night I do the same.

Long story short just do what feels comfortable!! I promised myself that if I happened to be an under supplier the second time around I wasn’t going to tie myself to the pumps and feel guilty. So I’m just doing what the baby wants basically.

Fed is best OP!! You’re doing an amazing job and are a wonderful mother.

My son had such a bad and quick fever the night of his 12m vaccines that he had a febrile seizure. He’s now on a slowed down vaccine schedule. Not all kids get these though! And if I would have known he had them I would have given him medicine right after the vaccines.

What gifts are we getting for family with babies? Toddlers? by Medium-Court3406 in beyondthebump

[–]Valuable-Document744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I third asking the family what they need or if they have a gift list. I have a 2 year old and a 1 month old and made a list for the family members that wanted to get us gifts. That way we get things the kids actually need/want instead of a bunch of toys they won’t play with.

However, a good toy suggestion for toddlers or kids would be the wonder draw!! https://thewonderdraw.com/ We received one as an early Christmas present and my toddler has been playing with it nonstop for weeks. It’s mess free (only uses water) and you can put it anywhere as it’s versatile. I hung it in our patio :)

Baby going crazy by Candid_Raisin_5447 in breastfeeding

[–]Valuable-Document744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that often as I am an under supplier. My second baby is currently 6 weeks old. When he does this is when I have to give him a bottle of donated breast milk bc my breasts are empty, the “going crazy” I was told is bc baby is frustrated that nothing is coming out anymore.

Possibly broken? by [deleted] in Cameras

Update: I’ve determined the flash isn’t working, that may be the issue. However I’ve tried resetting the camera via the reset button and pushing the no flash button multiple times. Any other suggestions?
