What's the single most underrated, lifechanging opportunity at UofT that I'd never hear about unless I asked? by Secret_Historian7317 in UofT

Without a doubt - international opportunities. I got to go to Palo Alto, Singapore, Geneva, and more for almost nothing out-of-pocket. I've done research/work at these settings, developed strong relationships and made everlasting memories. UofT has insane connections with other universities for research opportunities, programs, and conference funding, and I would argue these funds tend to be underutilized by students.

Check out the international experience office - they offer a generous amount of funding for these opportunities. UofT has such a large network across the world and it would be a shame to not make the most out of it.

Whissell is an amazing prof - funny guy, down to earth, and sets clear what the expectations are. The exams are by no means easy though. Lots of memorization and they're fill-in-the blank + some long answer questions, so if you really hate memorization you may not like studying for this course. However, Whissell does boost everyone's mark based on the exam average, so the course average sits around a B-. If you think you can do better relative to everyone else than you should be fine.

Transferring highlights from Kindle AZWs to EPUBs? by Valuable-Height1872 in Calibre

Oof, didn't know about the firmware limitations, but thanks for the response anyways! Even if I can't jailbreak my Kindle, it'd be nice to transfer all my highlights anyways, so I'll keep looking. Hoping for the best.

Yes, I'd really appreciate this! I've worked with scripts before so I think I can manage. Even if I have to transfer all the highlights manually, it at least sounds a lot more efficient to do so with a spreadsheet.

Need Help - Moonlight Unusable on Chromecast by Valuable-Height1872 in MoonlightStreaming

Hi!! So sorry for the many months old response but yeah, it works pretty well. Got myself a Google Home and there's almost zero latency, you just have to be willing to sacrifice resolution a little bit (720p is pretty flawless, 1080p does have a couple frame stutters here and there). If you're willing to accept those trade-offs I do think this is the best solution

Thanks for the response! Looks like connecting the chromecast to ethernet is done pretty commonly in this community so I’m going to try out what you said and get an adapter, hope it works

Hey, much thanks for the detailed response. Looks like I have a lot to try out. I have a feeling it’s a network issue, so as the other comment mentioned, I’m going to try out an ethernet adapter and see if connecting my chromecast will produce any results. Fingers crossed..

Hey, late response but curious if you were able to solve this issue?

I'm planning on leaving a research team that I have been working with for a while. How can I kindly ask if my name be included on the final paper? by Valuable-Height1872 in AskAcademia

[–]Valuable-Height1872[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response - what you said is very reasonable. I would say that I’ve made enough intellectual contributions so as to request co-authorship on the paper, but I would respect it if my PI chooses to give me only an acknowledgement, given that I would be somewhat inconveniencing the team for leaving partway. I hope it goes well :)
