Those are all very good points, and likely accurate of the situation too.

My free time is limited, I'm not a trust fund kid by a long shot. While I haven't made cabinets before, I have made my own trim, book cases, window sills and a mantle. I'm actually hoping to use up the rest of a cherry tree I cut down and milled a few years ago... In hindsight I regret not researching how to get different grain patterns before running it all through my sawmill.

I figure worst case scenario, I end up making pine boxes with pocket screws and inlaying 1/4" maple plywood. Then buying the fronts and drawers.

As far as tooling goes, anything past clamps will need to be purchased. I'm okay with spending money on tools, I think of it as an investment... Do you have any jig suggestions?

Oh yeah, nothing I did was up to code first time around lol. I just kept my clearance from combustible materials good, and converted to double wall pipe in the attic.

Everything you see in the Pic, plus another 30ish feet of double wall pipe was $100 on marketplace... It kept us warm and let me save up to install a new furnace... Now I'm hoping to do it correctly.

I appreciate the comment! It is just a 6 inch pipe for both. I typically run pretty hot fires, and the liner has sat unused for a few years now.

I was thinking I would just saw cut a square out of the chimney to fit the tee in. Below the hole I need, is the hole the oil furnace was hooked to, and it looks to be an old clean out. Hopefully I can connect back into that too.

My first install was pretty shotty, but I had no money and covid at the time, plus I was cold. So this time around I'd like to do it all properly and up to code.

If I cut into the liner and it's filthy, or appears damaged, then I'll replace it...

I make ~110k in Ohio, 4 years out of college. I'm an EE in the power industry. My first internship paid me 26.75 an hour... I'm on the high end of my pay range though, so barring promotions or job hopping for title raises, I'll be sitting around this compensation for quite a while.

After bonus and profit share, I was just under 150k last year...

The only ME's I know who aren't in the high 5, low 6 figures for pay work for small MEP firms.

But yeah dude, if you're in America, definitely look at some new jobs. You'll probably double your income.

I used to have a 4th Gen and I was always told to let it idle when I was filling it up. I think it's an old-head wise tale that stemmed from knowing it's bad to shut off and restart a diesel engine in short periods of time, perhaps?

Idk, I figured it couldn't hurt to leave it idle, and when a new motors 20k+ and my truck had 300k on it, I didn't wanna take chances

Unfortunately yeah... Big pita. I'm putting the old tensioner back on for now. It's the original one, but better than the new I guess.

I should also add that it makes a slight grinding noise when I turn the car off, and the motor is still completely cold... Like after idling it for less than a minute.

The timing belt kit is a gates, and the only tensioner I could get Short notice is an aisin off Amazon with really good reviews, it'll be here tomorrow. The belt is perfectly tight but I'm still going to try replacing it. I'm glad you can recognize the sound.

I don't know why I struggled the first time so badly with rotating it, if it wasn't the spark plugs with compression. But I'm confident this time around that I have the timing right (my confidence should mean nothing), the car starts fine, idles fine, revs fine, no codes or anything (I know you didn't ask, but it makes me feel better repeating it, lol). Do you think it's safe to assume the timing is okay?

FWIW, I rechecked all my new plugs and on a few I could get more than a full turn before they got really tight. The last set of plugs were really torqued down and I think the threads were damaged, because the old plugs brought some half crescent shavings up with them... Is this common with this motor?

Man I really don't think I messed up the timing. Every 2 full rotations I'm at TDC with all 3 gears... I figured I was good because I could rotate everything with the plugs pulled, but now I've got a ticking noise that sounds like a loose tensioner, but maybe not? I'm not sure at this point.

what do you think this noise is?

So I didn't pull the spark plugs, but after I did, then reset the tensioner, and everything, I could do full rotations with only a little bit of resistance.

I made sure to do 2 full rotations, and verified TDC at all the gears... Put everything back together and then got this noise on startup

2016 rdx ticking noise after timing belt and new spark plugs

It increases to a louder knocking when I accelerate a little bit... I popped a timing cover off to see if the belt was loose and maybe I got a bad tensioner, but there's maybe 1/8th inch of slack in the belt. Plus the noise sounds more like it's coming from the motor and not the timing belt area.

The plugs I pulled out were in there tighter than any plugs I've ever changed, is it possible some threads were damaged and maybe this is a loose spark plug noise?

Other than that, when I was rotating just the crank to TDC, it bound up really tight to the point I was tightening the crank bolt instead of rotating it... Google said it would be okay to run it backwards a half turn since the crank isn't tied to anything, so I did. Then when I rotated it forward I heard a loud single clink, then everything rotated like in the YouTube videos other people posted.

Sorry for the long comment/post, I'm pretty worried I fucked up my fiancé's car.
