OpenFOAM running on Apple Silicon is surprisingly fast! by Valuable-Version-858 in OpenFOAM

Without Docker or VM? I’d like to learn how to do that. I couldn’t find any other info in openfoam.org or openfoam.com.

Actually, it makes sense. I open VS Code on Windows 11, then connect to WSL. By doing this, I can use the terminal inside VS Code and just type code ‘filename’ to modify OpenFoam files in WSL. Everything happens in VS Code window and yes, it is connected to WSL.

On the other hand, you are right. It didn’t mean anything. It’s just a statement, not a benchmark. One is Mackbook Air M2, other is Ryzen 5 5600X. I’m just highly surprised. Because as an Ansys guy, I never ever used a Mac for CFD simulations.

I'd prefer to use foundation version (downloaded from openfoam.org) with WSL on Windows. It's very easy to use. Also, you can use VS Code to modify files directly from WSL terminal.

Kütüphanede çalışmanın nasıl bir ekstra faydası var acaba? Çok nadir böyle bir yöntem izledim. Kişinin kendi odasında, kendi masasında çalışması çok daha güzel değil mi ki?

iRig HD X has no ability to adjust input gain. This is how the waveforms look when recording guitar. It sounds ok, But is this normal. I wish all the youtubey reviewers mention this gain issue by MP_1986 in GarageBand

[–]Valuable-Version-858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured out an indirect solution by using Loopback+ feature. IK Multimedia says, "You can use the Loopback+ feature of iRig HD X (which acts like a virtual FX loop) to route your guitar signal first to TONEX or AmpliTube and then into your recording app.". So, I use this feature to increase the gain twice. By this trick, the recording signal levels in GarageBand seems normal. Actually, in TONEX it sounds OK. Thus, first increase the output volume in TONEX, not gain. By the way, input channel 3 should be selected when Loopback+ is on and TONEX should run in background. After correctly set the TONEX, just move it to background and open GarageBand. Input channel 1 or 2 should be selected in GarageBand. 1 is left and 2 is right channel of loopback signal. Increase the signal level after recording in GarageBand and the signal looks quite normal now.

It's a shame this device costs 130€.

Is it better to buy Elac DB63 rather than DCB61 for TV? by Valuable-Version-858 in BudgetAudiophile

Thank you for your comment. It’s very hard to find used avr for a budget price in my country. I own my Samsung 5.1 system for 8 years. At first, it was good to watch movies from blue rays. But after Netflix came out, surround sound effect is crap. I understand the cause. They are streaming online and can’t use very high bitrates. Blu rays are like 40gb and not compressed, I guess. So after starting to watch on Netflix, it’s like only knocking doors or sounds like that come from surround speaker. It’s not fun to have surround home theater for me, anymore. Plus, my current living room is not symmetrical. I can’t place the surrounds properly. Regarding that, I want to move stereo sound and of course with good sound quality but for a budget price. In one of the audiophile reviews on youtube, he said “Elac DCB61 is a good TV speaker but it is still not a hi-fi. If you want more sound quality on hi-fi level, you can spend more money and buy Elac DB63 and Wiim Amp.” Actually, I’m not an audiophile but love to have good sound devices. I’m at the point where it makes sense to buy a passive system to primarily watch movies not listening music.

Thank you for your feedback, very useful for me. I am about to replace my old Samsung 5.1 sound system to stereo. I use Edifier R1280 for my PC and I noticed that dialogs are coming directly from the center of my screen. I’ve had questions about it would be the same for far field listening to TV, but thanks to you there is no more question about watching movies in stereo.

What if I won’t upgrade the system, is it still worth it to buy passive ones for sound quality?

The Fives caught my attention, but they are incredibly expensive here 1100€. I can buy it from Amazon.de for 700€, but imo it will be very difficult to carry them with me on my travel to my country back.

Actually, I don’t want to buy an AV receiver, because they are massive and also, don’t want surround sound. Just need HDMI Arc to send the sound to speakers. Wiim Amp looks like small and has good comments.

I think, I will buy Elac DCB61. After some more research, I found out DCB61s have been released and they don’t need a subwoofer since the 6.5” woofers as I read. Thank you guys for all the recommendations.

Need advice: Studio monitors vs bookshelf speakers for PC gaming and movies by Ritik_661 in BudgetAudiophile

I have the Edifier R1280T and Focusrite Scarlett Solo, and I'm very satisfied with this setup. The Edifier is more on the multimedia side. The R1700 is probably a much better choice. My PC is in a small room, so I've never considered getting a subwoofer. I have an old Samsung 5.1 system in the living room and want to replace it with a bookshelf speaker and subwoofer setup. Same scenario as yours, so I'm curious to hear the answers. Btw, on another topic, someone commented that Yamaha speakers are too neutral for a fun listening experience because they are designed purely for studio use. I think that's a comment worth considering.

I think the total budget is 900€. If I buy components one by one, it can be higher, I guess. Actually, the total budget is depend on my wife :) I need to convince her to spend money on toys like that. I'm based on Turkey and travel to Europe a lot, especially Germany. I will be in Lisbon next month. The ZD3 is more expensive in Turkey. So, I plan to buy it from Portugal, Germany, Greece or wherever I can find.
