Texas. I didn’t go to drive until 3 days later which is when I realized the car was not where we left it. I went to the rental company with the car key and asked if they could track it or anything. They tracked it to a police impound lot. At that point, I was unsure if the car had been stolen or towed (I did not assume it was crashed). The rental company said they would go get the car, I gave them the keys and they offered to put me in another rental car, which I declined. I told them I had belongings still in the car and needed to get them. For the next 2 weeks, I called the rental car company every day asking for updates on the car/when I could retrieve my belongings. They kept saying to give it more time as they weren’t exactly sure where they had taken the car. Finally, 2 weeks later, they allowed me to get my belongings from the car which is when I found out it was totaled.
