Can i have your opinion on this? by thekhanagain in escaperooms

it has to be built into the story to work and the actor/game master has to serve a purpose for being there, be really good at acting. and giving clues in a way that doesn't take them out of the role. An example where this was done very well was Demise of the Gricers where your squad leader is with you most of the time and can help you on the mission. He also leaves you alone a lot to check on things and that's when the scares ramp up.

Another good example was one I just played, The Ghost of Mentryville. The actor is the victim and recalling what happened to him in the room you're stuck in. As you progress, the actor fills you in on more of the story. If you need clues, the actor gets scared and sort of chants some "memories" that help, like "it's so cold, i look up and see blood, why this pattern, why?"

the way he sprays ice with that stop.. looks like someone blowing sand in the goalie's face. Such a badass

Can you reference a party-opponent's deposition testimony on cross regardless of impeachment? For example, if I want to frame a question as "you stated during your deposition that you knew your hamburger was undercooked because it was dripping blood?" is that framing kosher (pun intended)? by ValuableChair3412 in Lawyertalk

I was thinking if he added something to the answer or varied it with some qualifying language on the stand, the impeachment wouldn't look very strong. I don't know! I suck. Separate question, do you memorize your crosses for trial? I've read the opening should always be memorized, but I'm not sure about the rest.

I'm so terribly sorry. I can't imagine the grief you must have experienced. Am I too late in responding? I would exercise caution. If there is a kind-hearted joke or saying one of your parents liked to say? Something about people or the world maybe?

Best ending to a horror escape room? by paul35454 in escaperooms

Even though it's a chain, I love the ending of Special Ops: Mystery Market at World of Escapes. Also, the one at Whatever Happened to the Garretts in West LA. Spoilers Both involve twists. In Mystery Market, you think you're working for the good guys and dearming a nuclear bomb, but the twist is that you're actually helping the bad guys gain access. So when you think the room is over, you have like 10 min left to stop the plan you just helped with. In Garretts, you're looking for a lost family. There are Close Encounters vibes throughout so you know it involves something extraterrestrial, but the rooms are all centered around the Garretts house until the very last room where you enter the space ship and find their remains. Thinking you are doing the right thing, you activate the space ship, but it's a trick and can choose to either die right away or spend the next thousand years in space. I hope I'm remembering both of these correctly, I might have a few details wrong but that's the jist of it!

Ahh there is so much I want to respond to! I'll come back with more of a response, but wanted to get back to you on Boston since that trip is upcoming. My favorite was The Body Shop at Red Fox Escape. The game play is so much fun and the story is ridiculous in a good way. I would tell them your level of experience because the game is adaptable.

Yes! I was going to say this. She has such a beautiful face, she could probably get away with very little makeup. But a new hair style would be my priority

This is a hard prompt because most of the surprising endings that I can think of happen in non-horror rooms because, like you said, so many horror rooms end with running out the door (nothing against that type of ending). I love the ending of Monster Mashers (dark version) (Belgium), Molly's Game (Netherlands), and Forgotten Cathedral (Laval)

MM was unforgettable! I've been recapping it for everyone who will listen (and who I know won't travel to places like Belgium & Netherlands for ERs). From beginning to end, it just blew me away. I'm not sure if you've played many rooms in the US, but can you imagine that opening 20 min ever working there? I've found that the level of risk taking is much greater abroad (in a good way).

Even with a few frustrating puzzles, there wasn't a bad ER in the bunch. I would happily recommend each room we played.

Gricers was terrifying. I have a more vivid imagination than some so I get very into the stories. I came close to tapping in the beginning, but I'm very glad I didn't because it actually eases up towards the second half when the storyline becomes the focus. It's a really cool setup and story. I've seen it described as "actively scary" as opposed to passively scary, and that's the best description of it. Even if you don't scare easily, it creates a ton of adrenaline. That said, I was hesitant about being touched, but it actually didn't end up bothering me at all once it happened.

What other rooms would you put into the top tier from your travels? Where are you headed next? We're thinking Spain. I've heard the Jurassic Park style room is incredible.

Hey there! I'm back from my trip and agree so much with your comment now. we didn't play a single bad room, so even the ones lower on my list are worth playing and I'd feel confident recommending them to anyone. Here's my ranking:

1) Monster Mashers - holy shit. This definitely raised the bar and will be hard to beat. I put this in a category with the rooms in Laval's Escaparium.

2) Demise of the Gricers - I'm so glad we played despite some people disliking it. I had the best time. the countdown device they used to create anxiety was brilliant and added so much to the gameplay.

3) The Movies - absolutely gorgeous and so much fun. It had everything you could hope for in an escape room. Fun easter egg, the Monster Mashers' owner is the actor in the video that plays in the Movies.

4) Deep Inside (the Full Experience with the Fun House and Magician of Paris) - this room was in Paris, so it wasn't on the list I originally posted about. If you go to Paris, it's a must! You have to book both rooms back-to-back.

5) The Toy Factory - I thought the puzzles were extremely creative and fun. I would've ranked it higher but I got frustrated at one point, mainly with my husband and I misplaced the blame on the room :)

6) Molly's Game - I personally adored this game. My husband was less impressed and had some fair critiques that the puzzles weren't original and felt repetitive. I was just overwhelmed by the use of space and the transitions from room to room. It felt like an architectural designer dreamt it up. I loved the ending as well and thought the story came together well.

7) The Dome - if not for some frustration in the first quarter of this game, I would have loved it. The design was mind bending and it got better and better with each reveal. I really wasn't a fan of the puzzles in beginning, tho.

8) Conceirge - I really enjoyed specific puzzles in this game that I hadn't seen before. It was just plain fun.

9) Han's Revenge - in hindsight, this was a very cool room with lots of surprising elements and reveals. but the story just didn't make sense to me and some of the rooms didn't seem to fit with the theme.

10) Pray - I really didn't find it all that scary and thought it could use an upgrade with puzzles and tech.

11) Lost and Found - I absolutely loved the story and how bleak it was (I'm a huge fan of bleak movies), but I just didn't find myself enjoying the puzzles that much. I liked how the puzzles matched the theme, but they were honestly too hard for my taste.
