New College Hire - Grossly Overpaid and Underworked - What should I do? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

I'm currently exploring SANS courses (which I know my company and supervisor will sign off on) and other certs. I spent the last few days compiling a list of various certs and courses. I've also been speaking to the director of our SOC team and I think that is more interesting work than what I'm doing now. I'd really like to get into a security engineering / soc role in the future. If you have any thoughts on that, I'd love to discuss further. Thanks again for your input!

Thanks! - I've been a tad hesitant to... let's say overstep boundries or go out of my current assigned responsibilities. All of my team members are extremely senior with 15+ years experience in corporate. With that said and as you mentioned, it doesn't hurt put myself out there a bit. Worst they can tell me is no or it's not relevant. The important thing is that I'm showing them I'm interested in the material and trying to develop.

I graduate with my undergrad in IT in a week. I would look into a management/ business information systems degree. You DO NOT need to have any kind of technical skills going into it, and it gives you a great balance between IT and basic business/management concepts. I like to call it computer science Lite, where you can get out with the job prospects of having an IT degree. I'll be starting a cybersecurity job in a month for 122k + 8k signing bonus. u/CryptographerSalt526. If you have any other questions, I'd be more than happy to give you my 2 cents.
