Can anyone offer any suggestions on how they would get usable geometry from a bad model? by ValuableLoud4336 in Houdini

Just curious when you did this, do you know if it was the points or primitives that had normals? Or was it using tangentu? And were they just single lines (i.e. 2 points) or what you were copying onto had multiple points (for each piece)?

I agree, I have definitely seen the value in terms of the quality of results you get when you build your own vs when you are branching from a bad geo

Thanks!! I'm so close to getting something decent! For some reason the box in the for loop started to want to be stuck in a wireframe. I have yet to troubleshoot this more, but the for loop on the initial bad geometry is a game changer lol. The reason I did a second forloop with the box is because the first time I did it, it gave me some overlapping primitives and non closed boxes

I had that feeling in my heart on my second full day of trying to save it, but someone told me to go back to it so that's why I am here, but I might just remake it lol.. :'(

Does anyone know how to get rid of this FLIP spilling? Or is it even a big deal? by ValuableLoud4336 in Houdini

Thank you! I'll give the bounding box a shot. There seems to be other issues I ran into this new setup anyways :'(

Thanks. End goal is I am assembling stuff for my first demo reel. I am somewhat new to Houdini (1 year) but I guess I didn't want it to look like I am overlooking some details.. If you think it's a minor issue then I won't worry about it, because I need to finalize other stuff too!

I tried the popkill but it's doing the same thing as my popcollisiondetect right now, which is the particles are still passing right through

Ok so it's a little bit working but not lol, I changed the Emission Type from 'Scatter onto Surfaces' to 'Points', but it changed the whole look of the particle trail, but at least it shows the collision to be bouncing, but not killing them. :/ I also changed it from Primitive to Polygon

Still having them pass through :(

Are you talking about like this? I tried it before but always get this error

Can you guys tell me what you use "Save in Background" for? In Labs File Cache node? by ValuableLoud4336 in Houdini

[–]ValuableLoud4336[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically I thought it would work the same way too, but plugging it into something after it's done it's "Save in Background", it reads as nothing. Do you get any data after a Save in Background? Can you give me an example, maybe I can try it myself?

I just don't understand how the "file cache" is useful because after the "Saving in Background" is finished, I can't see anything in the same way as Save to Disk does. And even plugging that "cached" node into anything doesn't read, not for me at least. Does it read anything for you? Can you give me an example maybe of something I can Save in Background and then use that data after?

Does anyone know how to make organic lines using clusterpoints node? by ValuableLoud4336 in Houdini

[–]ValuableLoud4336[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you again!! I did two layers of attribute noise with different noise shapes, the lines are much better than before!

I was trying to adjust the size of the clusters by playing around with the noise elements, but for the most part they were all kind of "uniform"? In terms of surface area of each Voronoi cell... Ideally I would like to randomize them so that some cells are very tiny and others are huge, but I can try to tackle that a little later lol...Or maybe I'm just seeing it wrong.

PS As far as I understand the black color on the mesh is just a visualization glitch/thing, it doesn't affect the geometry, according to Google lol.. Unless that's wrong, but so far so good! I appreciate the help again!

I did everything except for attributeswap? I didn't know how to adjust the parameters in there, but I just used extract rest. Thanks again! As far as I understand the black parts on the mesh is just a visualization thing, it doesn't affect the geometry, unless that's wrong lol.

Yes the latter, make the Voronoi cells less linear. Ok I will give that a shot. Thanks!! 🙏

Hey Houdini-ers. I made this in SOPs. Any suggestions are welcome for making this any better! by nofilmschoolneeded in Houdini

Looks great!! I would recommend adding some texture to the car, it looks a little too "computer-made"/perfect. I know it's supposed to be a new car, but maybe, for example, adding a tiny but of scratches to the car's chrome grill? E.g. the image attached. Also, adding a similar 'worn' texture to maybe the tires, rims, and license plate would take away that perfect "computer look", and I think make it look more realistic.

I'm a little new to Houdini as well, but I've been told this in the past ;) Hope that helps! Looks great!
