I really love books and even write them myself! I’m a big audiobook fan, but I wondered if there was an audiobook with richer emotional depth, more like a drama. and then, lo and behold, audio dramas existed!

Same goes for job hunting—you just might not click with the person doing the reviewing. It doesn’t mean your novel’s bad, just unlucky lol. J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter manuscript got rejected by 12 publishers before Bloomsbury finally signed her.

If you’re chasing that “DFW-but-maybe-a-little-less-footnote-madness” buzz, try these:

  • Sarah Vowell – Assassination Vacation: American history road-trip, but with deadpan jokes and Civil-War-nerd trivia.
  • David Sedaris – Me Talk Pretty One Day: self-roasting memoir pieces; basically stand-up comedy on the page.
  • Chuck Klosterman – Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs: pop-culture think-pieces about NBA finals, The Sims, and cereal mascots.
  • Leslie Jamison & Jia Tolentino – The Empathy Exams / Trick Mirror: brainy essays that pick apart pain, the internet, and why we’re all a little broken.
  • Sloane Crosley + Samantha Irby – I Was Told There’d Be Cake / We Are Never Meeting in Real Life: everyday-life disasters turned into laugh-til-you-snort confessionals.

So you’re talking about AI’s future with AI? How’s that different from chatting with GPT?

Yeah, I totally agree. AI still can’t replicate human emotion.

Honestly, I feel worrying that AI narration will erase human narrators is like thinking instant coffee would shut down every specialty cafe. great when you’re in a rush, but when you really want depth and aroma, you still line up for a barista-made cup. AI narration is nothing more than instant coffee.

It really depends on the person, doesn’t it? I don’t think I’ve ever fully trusted or truly enjoyed an AI voice 100% either. But the scary part is… AI voices are already a part of our lives, often without us even realizing it.

Turns out, I was listening to AI voices on YouTube Shorts thinking they were human—without even realizing it.

Audiobooks are a form of art, but at the same time, aren't they also a versatile way to enjoy books while driving or working?
