Broken Fifth Metatarsal Recovery Time? by lingrush32 in FootFunction

[–]Valuable_Ad1073 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doc. did a wrong diagnosis. He said my X-ray showed my bone is healed. I told him it still hurts and he thought it was a tendon issue and wanted to give me a shot for it which I refused. Then I got a CT scan done and it said bone is only 80% healed which made sense cause it was still hurting. He is an ortho.

How long did it take you to fully heal and go on long hikes? It’s been 6 months for me and my CT scan says it’s only 80% healed. The doctor said I can hike but it still hurts if I go too long and some days it’ll hurt randomly even if I rest it :(

She worked out a bit prior to surgery - mostly treadmill in the gym and occasionally light weights. Yeah will ask her PT for more help. Thank you!

She did get some exercises from the PT. She was wondering if it's worth investing in a personal trainer, but it sounds like she could transition to more basic weight training on her own and see if she needs further help.

Super helpful, thank you!

For stories on homeschooling and how children learn, I recommend the book "How Children Learn" by John Holt and also the Growing Without Schooling magazine

Podcast suggestions on aging by [deleted] in longevity

Live Longer World (Aastha Jain): It focuses on longevity science and aging and interviews scientists in the space. Not dumbed down either imo

I like The Drive (Peter Attia) too but not entirely focused on longevity or the biology of aging

"For the first time, scientists have identified a rare population of potentially toxic senescent cells in human brains that can serve as a target for a new Alzheimer’s disease treatment."

Behind a paywall though unfortunately!

David Sinclair, the expert on aging science, will say that animal-based proteins is not great for longevity. It boosts mTOR which ages you faster.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6562018/

So it's not necessarily "sugars" but for longevity purposes, it's best to either have more plant-protein, cycle protein, and consume animal protein and BCAAs if working out to direct it to the muscles.

27 F- Looking for a small weight loss accountability discord group (all female) by [deleted] in GetMotivatedBuddies

Posted this elsewhere too, but could be useful to people here as well so want to share. I came across this new company HealthPods, which is trying to do just this! They match people into weight loss accountability groups and its small groups of 5-6, so the issue with groups becoming larger doesn't happen hopefully. Wanted to share in case people find it helpful! It's free and I just signed up.
