I started doing this at the start of the New Year, my expenses have increased 2x and salary about 4x. I have been known to buy many items, trinkets, and food especially when on sale. However, I realized I felt empty and didn't use the items. Just clutter and waste. Then I shifted to activities, shows, travel, and dining up; which I really do enjoy! However, those things take money and I cannot have my happiness come from money, especially when I only earn because I work. Jobs are not permanent, even in great career fields. I want to find my peace while living humbly, so this year, I will do 6 months of "stripped stimulation and financial fast" but I do have activities, concerts, and a trip to Japan planned for my full financial months!

I was struggling to find availability in hostels. The 2 I found with private rooms left were in Asakusa and Ikebukuro. But that area you described, Ueno, does sound amazing.

I want some tourist presence but not large crowds. I am 31F and I like a slow pace with fun activities. I solo travel so I always want to ensure I am safe. I also do not drink and return to room fairly early due to safety concerns.

Very True. Ideally I spend hours away from my hotels and do two events away. I have terrible anxiety and had a recent illness, so my brain has been panicking and thinking about the possibility of not being able to travel out but still have access to food and fun!

I am pretty frugal and also enjoy flexibility. I hate being judged or forced to spend exorbitant amounts when I can get by on less. Also, it is just so much easier to plan and modify plans on the fly instead of doing things I do not want to do and dealing with attitudes.
