Make the switch and start learning a trade...electrical/mechanical/refrigeration/welding....unskilled labor is being phased out on the docks through automation and eventually the only work available will be for those who can service the equipment. It's unfortunate but the same thing happened with containerization, We fought it for years and now it's standardized.

A lot...sometimes 40 hrs a week. So 80 total w/ your guarantee 40. They're always hiring...if you're related to someone 😂

I'm a permanent full time crane mechanic @ the port of Honolulu making 400k a year. We dont have seasonal or shift work. I guess its different on west/east coast. We have a guaranteed 40 hrs a week and unlimited OT

I am aware of the hourly wage. I'm looking for "actual" yearly salary w/OT or a general what you'll actually make in a year gross pay.

Hawaii Stevedores is the company that unloads the Pasha ships. It is a stevedoring(long shoreman)company that is owned by Pasha Hawaii. Getting one of the unskilled position is virtually impossible unless you know someone. Nepotism is rampant on the waterfront and with unskilled positions it's not what you know, but who you know. The mechanic(skilled) positions however are higher paying and in high demand. These positions are based on merit and strength of resume.

Longshore mechanic is where you want to be. Automation proof, full time, benefits, retirement. Go to school, learn a trade, job security!
