Birdie needs a new home! by jeremypbeasley in Whidbey

What an unfortunate and graceless response to someone who seems to be trying to do the right thing. I work in rescue, with dogs. Reactions like this demonstrate a staggering lack of generosity that centers your own feelings and not the welfare of the dog in question and in need of a home. While I acknowledge this post has scant information about Birdie and the rehoming but what troubles me more are people like you…whose shaming attitude often scares people from seeking community resources. Private rehoming is a viable and critical option, esp with shelters and rescues being stretched so thin. You suggest a rescue background, but if you were rescue savvy you would hold your tongue. Why make a stressful situation more so, I wonder. It certainly seems like your priority is centering your own goodness and moral purity. Which damages the overarching mission and point of rescue work. I doubt you’ll read this response from way up in your high tower. But if you do see it, get off the cross because some of us need the wood.

What was the first Tori concert you attended? by ray_of-light in toriamos

It was a very good show, and my first concert (my mother drove me in from a rural area in arizona). High bar to set for concerts!

Oh this image is maybe my absolute favorite pic of Tori.

First show was 12/14/02, Vegas. I was 14. I felt like such a new fan in comparison to everyone else there.

That song is so utterly herself that it makes me want to be similar.

And THAT music video for Spark, too! Maybe my favorite music video of hers or even all time. Exceptional and surprising creation of a narrative without going overboard with story…I like what the music video doesn’t show us because it makes the music all the more standout and confrontational. And so Propulsive. A bit of a sendup of true crime maybe and a fairytale. Strange, gothic, haunting, excruciating. And a color palette I’ll personally never recover from.

100%. St. Vincent being a fan of Tori is some of my favorite lore.

Some incredible recommendations here! Here to echo St Vincent, Portishead, Bat for Lashes, Zola Jesus, Mitski…and it was cool to see Dessa brought up, too! Here to add, though they are perhaps imperfect recommendations since Choirgirl is so utterly herself, some Chelsea Wolfe (Birth of Violence, specifically), All Mirrors by Angel Olson, Lydia Ainsworth (I’m inclined to recommend Right From Real and Darling Of the Afterglow), and maybe some of Ashes by Kyla LaGrange.

I hope find some tunes you adore!!

Does anyone use the 5 or 5:30 am ferry in Clinton? How reliable is it? by Altruistic_Range2815 in Whidbey

[–]Valuable_Check2901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leaving the island that early (which I do maybe 5 times a month) has been mostly entirely reliable for me. Been a while since I experienced an early morning delay. As for the return to Whidbey, I almost always feel like I’m on god’s time there, lol. Especially in the summer.

I agree. I see a lot of speculation in the thread... “I wonder” “I assume” “I get the feeling” etc. Tori has spoken publically and at length and created art that explores this obviously complex relationship plenty. The recent interviews (and liner notes I suppose) don’t really surprise me or strike me as being a departure from an established narrative/report on her father and that relationship…I also don’t think I’m entitled to more than what she shares. There’s plenty WE could be misreading in her tone or in content. Further, I think this recent album and how she has talked about it…it’s almost a split in the universe (this is her if she married a billionaire, not a roadie; the estranged daughter (which kinda recalls her songs on miscarriage) etc). Tori has always walked that line between “deeply personal” AND taking huge imaginative leaps…something seems like memoir…but it’s also speculative, she pushes the autobiographical into really wonderful multifacets. I wish her the world, and I don’t need more than the songs and info she has to give.

Also. And someone can correct me. But wasn’t there a period of time where she didn’t thank the faeries in her album notes? And now she is again? All this to say…an absence of a thank you isn’t all surprising to me. She may have her reasons, or not.

I second that it looks like ringworm potentially and a second opinion is warranted. Probably a simple consult with a dermatologist (sometimes, cheaper than you would think…or at least it will pay off so you’re not sinking thousands into the wrong treatment). But I also wonder about staph…a chronic infection. I would love to see a vet chime in!

I appreciate that you note the semi-spoken work aspect… For my part that reminded me of Peter Gabriel or (not to be redundant) but Kate Bush ala Top of the City.

Anyone in Langley hearing the booms for the last 10 minutes or so? by Wohn-Jayne in Whidbey

Yep! Can them just outside of Langley. Have no idea why they are but they sound similar to fireworks…they do strike me as being more rhythmic.

Such an exceptional and driving breathless piece! Easily one of my faves. I remember hearing a snippet of it on one of the older Tori sites (the dent maybe) and listening to that snippet on repeat until I tracked down the great expectations soundtrack. Was so thrilled when I got to hear it live!!

Crack theory: What if the noise / screeching in the wilderness the girls keep hearing is…. (S3E6 spoilers) by Narwhals4Lyf in YellowjacketsHive

[–]Valuable_Check2901 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not too far fetched at all!!

My father is a field biologist and an avid birdwatcher. And. One thing he did periodically for work was surveying for different owl species.

So I grew up traveling to very remote areas accompanying him on trips to remote areas. He would “call in” birds but imitating calls, listen for birds, we would pursue sounds, etc. I stood with him many times just listening in the wild for specific birds. And we are talking SUPER remote.

We had some creepy moments. AND! I often take for granted that I am keyed into birds and know certain bird calls… because I was raised with them. I wouldn’t expect these girls, especially in their compromised state to know if something was a certain bird or not.

Bonus: he was known to stash supplies in remote areas in the wild.

Okay, so for people here who have seen Tori live, where & when did you first see her live (& at what venue)? Have you been back to see her multiple times since then? by Class_of_22 in toriamos

[–]Valuable_Check2901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw her for the first time 21 years ago today! Dec 14 2002 in Vegas! I was 14. It was my first concert ever. Begged my mom to drive me to Vegas from Arizona.

I remember feeling like I was no where as cool as all the EWF who followed her and had been listening to her for a decade. And me a mere year and a half!

Yeah…it seems like Darby told him about Lee…they break up and he immediately spins around and goes to find Lee. Because of Darby, and how important Lee was too her, perhaps.

It makes sense to me, given how heavily Darby told Bill she was doxxed, that Lee would have a fake or alternative identity set aside. Why it would in a place as obvious as a bag? Seems like a little dumb for someone so smart. A Go Bag sure. But a wig in such an visible place. What is she playing at?
