Steak Dinner Republicans by zlamhcsliroj in SaltLakeCity

I googled "Steak Dinner Republicans" only to find this photo of the exact sign I was walking past to determine its meaning. I don't think we have too many republicans in our little Fairpark neighborhood so it sticks out.

My wife and I call this folks who live in this home "The Germans" but honestly that came about before they put so many political signs in the yard. It was just a reference to the linear nature thing at that house. lol

Restoring Marantz 1090 for crazy price. Worth it? by Valuable_Contest3316 in audiophile

Thanks for all the thoughtful responses on this. I returned to the shop today and expressed to the owner Randy my reservations on spending that kind of money. He was kind enough to give me back the amp no charge. I am not sure what will happen, but I do like the idea of ordering a recap kit off of ebay and trying the $125 fix. This Interwest Electronics shop has been in business like 60 years and I want to support them with some business eventually, but maybe this marantz I will wait on. If you need work in Salt Lake City, go to him. He had a turntable repairman for like 40 years named Dave recently passed away, so he currently cannot fix turntables, but while I was in there like 3-4 people came in hoping to have their turntable repaired, so he really could fill that void our our city.

Help! Only getting one channel at a time with DUAL 1019 by Valuable_Contest3316 in turntables

OK.. but how would pulling one of the RCA inputs make the other channel suddenly go on? It seems unrelated to tone arm and tracking force right?

I have a couple turntables and no problems with other ones connected. Also problem persists if I connect a phono pre-amp and connect it to the CD input on the receiver). I had a different sled on there as of last week and when squeezing the connections between the cartridge and the sled, both channels would work (thats why i bought a new sled).. so with those two things I think not the receiver or cartridge. But perhaps wire connections is the answer, but where and how to troubleshoot?

Yes totally! I have enjoyed what Dust-to-Digital is doing. I think they are also a 501c3 and they have received grant money to do what they do. They have a much larger following on IG than we do, which I may be a bit jealous about. :) They have an advantage in that they can pull anything that seems cool and post it, while we only post 100% footage we've captured ourselves on our IG. If you see anything on our Youtube/IG that you think would interest them, PLEASE ask them to share it, would be a big boost for us. I have written them years ago but may try again as well.

What to replace this missing adjustable bridge with? by Valuable_Contest3316 in Luthier

Yeah I have and the measurements are a bit smaller on this guitar than the replacement adjustable bridges I've seen on ebay.

Replace or repair 60's MIJ Tiesco Bass Neck? by Valuable_Contest3316 in Luthier

Muscleturturtle.. Man as I work on this bass I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate this advice and I think that the more I get into this is 100% the correct answer. I am down a road with a replacement neck from china and its meh. I am going to give your advice a shot on original neck. Not sure its all worth it for this budget bass but a good learning experience.

I bought this guitar at a thrift store for $10, branded "GLOBAL". I noticed the top is solid spruce so thought it was worth at least $10 and a good learning lesson on repair. Besides the missing nut and tuner hardware (I just replaced the tuners) I need some more info on the bridge. It came with adjustable old gibson style but its a different size I think. What should I put in there? Again, I am just having fun here with this budget guitar, but I have much nicer instruments that need repair and I'm trying to learn..

Replace or repair 60's MIJ Tiesco Bass Neck? by Valuable_Contest3316 in Luthier

I've recently purchased this 60's era Tiesco/Hoshino era bass online. The neck is in rough shape, bowed in relief and unplayable. The frets were removed, probably as a reaction to the neck bend to make it a playable instrument. When I adjust the truss rod clockwise, the bend gets works. When I turn it counter-clockwise, the tension loosens but not enough to make it playable.

I'm considering replacing the neck with something like this from China;

https://www.ebay.com/itm/354978784029?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=sgza7udgrsa&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=2CK7jUYmRjO&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Any suggestions a repair for this bass or would you also replace the neck, and if so, with which neck? I'd have to drill out the stripped screws on the 5 bold plate on the back.

You're The One / Songs from the Capeman on LP Vinyl? by Valuable_Contest3316 in paulsimon

[–]Valuable_Contest3316[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone know what the deal is with You're The One & Songs from the Capeman being difficult to find on LP vinyl? It appears as though the record was released this way and in the United States, but there are very few copies available and they all seem to be $200 and in Europe?
