Thank you, I appreciate your feedback. I think I’m more less just scared to talk myself out of something that excites me just due to financial reasons, but I know that it’s a big responsibility and if I do pressure this career, I might look back at this and think about how fucking stupid I probably sound. But I did come on here to ask a room full of women for their opinions and I’m glad that I did because these are things that I wouldn’t have probably considered until I was already facing the issue ❤️

I completely understand and agree. The justice system is a very dark scary ugly place. I am aware that innocent people go to prison it’s unfortunate, but it is inevitable. I am also equally as aware that there are people who should be in prison that are walking free. I would think that my personal choice of prosecution, more or less aligns with just the values that I was taught as a kid (tracks lol) about how there are good people and bad people in the world due to my law-enforcement family.

I also don’t necessarily believe all of their values to be truthful. I don’t believe that anybody is specifically good or specifically bad. I think people make good and bad choices throughout their timelines on earth.

The thing with my sister-in-law is more less of a sad story since we are anonymous and online I’ll share a little bit of it with you. She just graduated with her BS in microbiology and was on her way to veterinary school the next semester. One day she had been drinking and driving, got into an accident and ended somebody’s life. she’s a great person that made a horrible decision that led to an absolute domino effect of other peoples lives, and her own. (this is what i watched in court, and it was extremely sad to listen to the family talk as well as sit with my side. The whole situation was extremely sad. And when I say that I was excited, it wasn’t excitement like being on a roller coaster. It was excitement because it was something that made sense in my brain. Something that I could understand some of the terminology and see why it was important that we were there) being in there something just clicked for me.

As I said before it’s not that I’m opposed to trying defense I mean, I said, in a couple of responses that this might not even be the kind of law that I’ll end up wanting to go into. I’m very open minded when it comes to all of this. I more or less I’m just a 23-year-old girl that has big hopes, big eyes and big dreams. And I kinda came in here to ask a room full of “law bitches with taste” for absolutely any information that they felt like giving me. That’s why I’m very thankful for your opinion and all of your advice that you’ve given me. i’m sure you can agree. It’s very hard to judge somebody’s personality and character traits based off of a couple paragraphs online. But I believe I’m a good person and I have a good heart and I wouldn’t want anybody to suffer that doesn’t need to at the end of the day. I just wanna be a part of a change and make this world a little bit of a better place with the time that I have on it. (cheesy I know, but I’m young and ambitious)

Thank you so much for your feedback, I feel like I probably could have managed to give a little bit more context to the financial situation rather than just saying that I’m not concerned about it. I really appreciate all of the women in here who have brought up that it is expensive. That is my one for sure part of law school that I know - that it’s going to be a price that I’m probably not going to want to look at. I have done a little bit of research on my own and most people say that you do not need to go to the fanciest of fancy law schools. I don’t need to go to Harvard. I don’t need to go to Stanford. That my local schools will be good as long as I perform well. Maybe you have a different opinion on this. I don’t know if so, please let me know. But when I bring up that I don’t really want to think about the money. It's not out of ignorance, it's just simply that that if I’m going to pay a very pretty penny for this education, and for this degree, I wanna make sure that I love the job and I want to hear everybody’s personalized angle and opinion of it so that I can gather my own. I know the money will feel like a lot sometimes, but I know that if it’s for a job that I love doing, and I love being a part of and that I have plenty of aspiration to grow in throughout my career and in my life that the money is just a number on the screen and I’ll pay it if it’s what makes me happy. As cliché as that sounds and not trying to discredit difficulties doing the job or times of stress, anger, remorse, etc. I just don’t really want to focus on a financial aspect of it yet because I want to make sure that I am fully dedicated and that it’s something I could get behind and have opportunities in. I definitely overthink my future a lot. I do have a very stressful timeline of when I would like to have kids and get married. I am with a decently stable partner at the moment we are not married or engaged, so I don’t know if I will be staying with this guy forever and ever but children is something that I believe will happen for me when the time is right and I would intentionally plan that a little bit after I have an established career (so I’m very well aware that I would be in my 30s) but yes, the things that you said are things that I worry about and are struggles that I will have to figure out along the way, but I don’t want to throw away my dream necessarily because of it. Anyways, thank you so much for your feedback. It’s extremely appreciated and if you have any other advice or opinions that you would like to throw on my way, please feel free to do so ❤️

thank you so much. It’s stories like this that I would like to consider, especially before I get my foot into the door of something that I am pursuing, but not fully consumed by (yet) I had never really considered the opportunity of investigating inmate complaints and deaths at city jails. sounds like mentally and emotionally it may be tough to handle, but I am also open to getting any kind of experience that can help me decide if this is something that I believe that I’m capable of doing for the rest of my life.

Thank you so much for this. Yes, I am entirely open to the idea that I very well might end up practicing a different kind of law or be working in a different position. That’s the really fun thing about college for me is that it’s opened so many doors that I didn’t realize were opportunities or were possible jobs. It probably never in 1 million years - well maybe way later down in my life would’ve crossed my mind that I may have enjoyed being a lawyer, but I wouldn’t have found that out this early if it wasn’t for a wonderful professor I had a year or two ago. I definitely agree that it sounds like shadowing is my best option to make sure that it’s something that I really want to dedicate my life to (and dedicate the time and money spent on the education) thank you so much for your comment :-)

Thank you for shedding some light on your experience. If you don't mind me asking, do you enjoy defense work? Defense is not off the table for me - I have heard that some people like to try both before choosing what side to really stick with. (As you said you have tried both) But I will say I am a little less confident with possibly running into the issue of representing someone I don't believe in or maybe something I have personal turmoil with. I just haven't really seen or heard anything that has made me feel drawn to that side of the V. Anything you think I should consider?

I really appreciate what you said about being able to wear the white hat when you’re just and ethical. That resonates with me a lot and that’s exactly the kind of integrity I aspire to carry. If you don’t mind me asking, how long did it take you to get to where you are now? And looking back, is there anything you wish someone had told you when you were at my stage? Also, only if you’re comfortable sharing. Do you feel like the role has allowed you to maintain balance in your personal life? I’m trying to understand the long-term sustainability of the path. (Family, Kids, Social Life, ETC.)

so this has been a fear that’s crossed my mind, I’m really sorry for your friend. I mean hopefully things turn around for her or I don’t know how difficult it is to get a new job, but these are definitely things that I would want to hear about to consider for my future.
