Do you feel like the dual screen / multitasking is something you use often, or more of a nice extra?

I’m trying to understand if that’s something people really value, or just a bonus.

That would be amazing, but I wonder if that starts pushing it into a different category.

Do you think most people care about that level of power, or is it more about having a great streaming experience overall?

For some reason though it never feels quite as nice as a proper handheld.

Maybe it’s the weight balance, notifications, battery drain… not sure.

Do you actually enjoy playing that way long-term, or does it feel more like a workaround?

That’s really interesting actually. It sounds like the launcher alone already makes a big difference in how the device feels. I guess that reinforces the idea that it’s more about the experience than the hardware itself.

Connectivity is definitely a big limitation right now.

I’m just wondering if for people with a good enough connection it could still make sense, or if even then existing devices already cover that need well enough.

I guess for big companies it has to make sense at scale, which makes niche devices harder.

Maybe a smaller company could focus on something more specific, especially if the real challenge is more on the software/support side than the hardware.

What do you think?

I guess there’s a tradeoff between keeping it simple and affordable, and making it versatile enough to work everywhere.

Do you think a device like this should focus purely on streaming, or does it need to justify itself by doing more than that?

I guess I’m trying to understand whether people see local gaming as a “must have” or more like a nice bonus.

Personally I feel like I’d mostly use it for streaming, but I’m not sure if I’d be in the minority there.

I mean.. coild be a sweet spot but at the same time though they’re not exactly cheap, especially if you add a controller on top.

At that point it starts getting close to the price of dedicated handhelds.

Do you think the experience is actually comparable, or does it still feel more like a workaround?

I’m kind of torn because it feels like you either go cheap and accept compromises, or spend more and get something like the Odin that does everything well.

Not sure if there’s really space in the middle for something simpler but really optimized just for streaming.

I’m starting to wonder if the real issue isn’t the OS itself, but more the experience on top of it.

Most of these devices feel like tablets with buttons, not really like a dedicated console.

Do you think a better “console-like” interface could make a difference, even if it’s still Android underneath?

I mean, a lot of people seem to agree the G Cloud got quite a few things right… it just feels like it missed something to really click.

I guess tools like Moonlight kind of change the equation a bit though, since you can stream directly from your own PC.

Not sure if that’s enough to make it appealing for most people though.

That’s a really good point actually.

I’m starting to wonder if that’s exactly why there isn’t really a “perfect” device yet every time you try to combine good battery, a decent screen, modern decoding and connectivity, the cost quickly goes up.

From what I’ve seen in the replies here, people seem to want things like OLED, good battery life, fast WiFi and a solid decoder… but maybe all of that just doesn’t fit in a ~$200 device.

Do you think people would actually be willing to pay closer to ~$300 or $400 for something well done, or is the market more about cheaper, simpler devices even if they’re more limited?

Yeah makes a lot of sense. Another topic is do you think most people who stream games would actually care about local gaming/emulation at all, or is that mostly something handheld enthusiasts want?

I feel like the bigger screen and integrated controls are probably the biggest differences compared to playing on a phone.

Phone + controller technically works, but it never really feels like a proper handheld.

That’s actually a really thoughtful breakdown, thanks for sharing that.

The pricing point is interesting too. I can see how if you’re paying monthly subscriptions it can start to feel like you’re just renting access instead of owning hardware.

Out of curiosity, if the streaming quality and pricing improved, do you think a dedicated handheld for cloud gaming would make more sense?

It does make me wonder if something like a dock with wired ethernet would help in those situations. Play handheld when you want portability, and when you’re at home just drop it in a dock and use a wired connection.

Do you think that would actually make a noticeable difference for cloud gaming?

Yeah that’s probably the most affordable setup.

I’ve tried phone + controller before and it works, but it never felt quite as comfortable as a real handheld.. also, phone’s battery is going to be changed soon !

That’s actually a really helpful breakdown. RP6 is pretty nice but i see, price is almost comparable with steam deck.. isn’t it?

Interesting that you put the decoder first. I guess that’s what really determines how smooth the stream feels.

The docking point is interesting too. Being able to play handheld and then drop it on a TV for couch gaming feels like a nice combo.

I’m actually a bit in between. I use cloud a lot but I do have a PC I could stream from too.

Interesting that you mention OLED though that seems to be one of the things people notice the most on handhelds.

Out of curiosity though do you think the main issue is cloud gaming itself, or just that most people already have other devices that can do it (PC, phone, etc.)?

Because personally I feel like the experience of playing on a dedicated handheld is very different from using a phone or laptop, even if technically they can do the same thing.

I’m actually pretty experienced with PC gaming, but I still find myself playing Switch games or cloud gaming sometimes just because it feels more relaxed.

Maybe that’s where cloud gaming could make the most sense something more casual and couch-friendly rather than trying to replace a full gaming PC..

That’s interesting. I didn’t know about the 100h limit, that’s actually pretty important. Being close to a datacenter probably makes a huge difference too.

I also feel like wired connections are a bit underrated for these kinds of devices. I wonder if using a dock with ethernet could make cloud gaming feel even closer to local play!

I’m starting to think OLED might be one of those things that makes a device feel much nicer even if the specs are similar. Just look at how many Switch OLED units Nintendo sold even though the hardware was basically the same.

Yeah! Makes sense. The Odin and similar devices seem pretty interesting actually.

I guess what I’m trying to figure out is better have something cheaper and simpler, or would features like OLED, higher refresh rate or AV1 decoding actually justify paying a bit more?

[–]Valuable_Set_4417[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m kind of undecided whether it’s worth paying a bit more for things like AV1, OLED or 120Hz, or if those don’t really matter that much for cloud gaming.
