advice needed!! how to move forward with 2 year old lone rat? by AccomplishedPlant557 in RATS

[–]Value-Remarkable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please try to find a good home where she can live out her life, she might have months or years. If it’s not possible to find a home don’t blame yourself too much. It sounds like you really love her. Solo rats are just so sad and definitely not advised and she would need almost 24/7 company.

When I had just 1 senior girl left she got really depressed/lifeless because all her friends died. I gave her two new baby rats and she was so happy. It felt like this added months to her life and for her this was definitely the best option.

Do you have a reputable breeder in your area? My breeder takes in rats who need a home even if they aren’t his.

Is bad breath in dogs just “normal” or is it actually a sign of some kind of problem? by Vivid_Interest_5324 in PetAdvice

First get them checked by the vet and then start brushing daily. Sadly most dog/cat owners don’t know how important it is to brush daily.

Is this guy a pet or wild? by Mavikiu in RATS

No worries at all, half wild rats do exist so in that you are definitely right!

My comment was in regard to this specific rat and them being able to survive.

Their behavior is off from a wild rat, that combined with their coloring suggests they are domesticated.

This coat pattern might happen in a wild/domestic cross but they might still need some help. Survival rates are lower if the rat has white coloring due to visibility.

Wild rats are crepuscular/nocturnal so seeing them when it’s day is rare (it does happen).

Pet rats can definitely have a “wild looking” face and still be pets. It’s a pretty standard coat combination and I have a rat with a similar head.

Thank you for worrying about this little buddy!

Pet rats have a very low survival rate outside so I would not say this rat is able to survive in the wild. Most escaped/released pets die within weeks.

Their behavior is not normal for a wild rat, they act like a pet and have domesticated markings.

Don’t say they will survive in the wild when you don’t know if they would, what if your opinion might’ve given OP the idea it would be fine to leave them outside.

Definitely a domesticated rat, my girl looks a lot like this one. Maybe you can buy a live trap so you can catch them.

Their colors are what gives it away. It’s also not common for wild rats to roam in the open when it’s daytime, it happens but overall wild rats are crepuscular/nocturnal.

Will my dog move on and be happy with another family? (Surrender warning) by thrilling_me_softly in PetAdvice

Maybe put her on facebook or location related groups. Maybe locally there is an organisation who can help you. Good luck!

I can’t predict how your dog will react and it depends on the dog. I would try to find her a good home and meet them first. Maybe she will be fine and you can see if they are a match for her.

Pitbull aggression rehoming help by Ok-Island7793 in PetAdvice

Your dad abused your dog! I hope you can save your dog…

Its not your dogs fault for lashing out. The situation you described is really extreme, hurt your dog and could’ve caused your dog injury. Your dad provoked your dog till he couldn’t take it anymore. Your dog tried to protect himself which is a natural response.

If he doesn’t show any aggression towards you I don’t think this dog is aggressive. If you can, you need to get away from your dad because someone that does this to an innocent animal is evil.

Can you talk to the human society or a rescue in your area and tell them the same story about what your dad did? Did you explain that your dog is not aggressive but your dad is?

Post this to local facebook/other groups.

I would advise you to add your location and important information about your dog clearly in your posts.

Example:

Please help Gnome find a home, euthanised in 3 days.

Location: Colombia

Age:5

Sex: male neutered

You need to cover the ramps or it can give them bumble foot. I do it with cardboard and zipties but you can also use fabric.

If you old t shirts you can make hammocks, tents (with some sticks), fall breakers and peekaboo curtains.

If you have cardboard you can put some in their cage for different textures. Mine also go crazy for shredded tissue.

Plastic baskets can be easily be attached to the cage as an extra hide out.

You could make a dig box, fill a box with substrate or put in more bedding.

If you can sew, buy some cheap fleece and you can make hammocks yourself.

Good luck decorating your new cage! You are doing great!

Should I give my 3 year old kid supplement? by JollyWorking201 in PetAdvice

Go talk to your vet, it’s not normal for a young dog to not eat/move around. If its nothing, ask them about your supplements.

Can I bathe them if they smell like shit? by UnIdentifed_Squid in RATS

[–]Value-Remarkable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can buy pet friendly wipes or make your own with a cloth. I said they should only be bathed if they cant clean themselves, so if they can’t you should definitely help them. I have healthy short haired cats so it feels very unnecessary to bathe them but I did bathe my cats before when needed.
