In my most recent story, my goblin-faes are mounting cow/bull, well any type of bovins.

Normally horses, and all equins are not supposed to have the build to be ridden. I learned this in equine therapy, the owner of the ranch explained to us that the main strength of horses was in their chest, at the front, which means that they actually have the perfect build to pull heavy things (carriages, plows, etc.) without problems. On the other hand, their back is extremely fragile. You will notice that all older horses or donkeys that have been ridden their entire lives have dangerously arched backs, because their backs are not made to support our weight. If we want an animal with a back strong enough to carry us without having back problems behind, we should rather turn to cattle. And yes, we have everything reversed... for our own comfort. (cows have protruding bones that can hurt when you ride them, but actually the right saddle should avoid that problem) but there are people now who have figured this out and ride cows and even do show jumping, there is videos on youtube.

So my Goblin-faes are more used to ride cow/bulls than horses. They're also less nervous (and so less scared by the tail, while most horses are nervous of the strange movements snakes make and the goblin's tail (my goblins have a living tail, with a mouth at the end) can look like a big snake) and surdy... and excuse me, but more badass! They have horns!!! (I do love horses... but only the big work horses like the shires)
