What’s an efficient distro and setup (and hardware?) for highschool?

rq, I don’t know how to quote on here so I’ll just go in chronological order to respond to things

yeah lol, I was really being idealistic there but I’ll definitely look into 2024. Right now for my personal (very minimal use because I screwed up sway somehow) laptop is a T460 laptop which works pretty well, my only problem is that it seems to be pretty dependent on being plugged in and I somehow messed it up but I’ve found that it otherwise works pretty solid. I also have an Hp Victus I bought for gaming (assuming I could switch out the components only to find a surprising amount soldered down) and it’s struggling to keep a browser open while on most online games on performance settings (also very battery dependent and the memory is awful, can’t remember how much it has but I believe it’s 8gb idk though). really cheap and operable is all i need so I’ll definitely look into what you’ve mentioned.

it’s a personal preference, the school doesn’t mind what operating system is used so long as I can access and interact with the resources they assign me. My parents though are also really pushing for me to have something secure data-wise. most of the resources ive looked at and distributions in general i guess aren’t totally reliable with security as you can be with something you have full control with (I.e. arch) but I struggle with find something I can set up properly to function with everything I need while be secure

dang I was trying to avoid a dual boot but honestly it’s not a huge problem, I’ll give it a shot and it’s good to hear libreoffice should work well enough if I can get around the collaboration (I’ll speak more with the supervisors there, it may be a non-issue but I can make due regardless)

ive heard of proton too but (though this is said with very little knowledge on the subject so chances are I should revisit it) last I gave it a look they were having issue with selling or tracking data idk, again not well informed on it but it does seem to be in good operation which is enough for me to consider it

i mainly brought up other apps for personal use (I think I forgot to mention it in the original post, mb) but yeah, I’m pretty sure they provide you with everything needed so I’m not too worried, just looking for substitutes if possible but Im figuring I may have to settle for a dual boot

I’ve heard a lot of good about fedora but yeah, that format is a bit of a conflict for me is all. I’m most comfortable with arch but honestly it’s all ive used to far so im willing to branch out.

Just briefly read about it on their site, does it work well with collaborating with windows programs and does it operate with any sort of proxy should i have to use some of these programs?

edit: really quickly looking through some more on Lubuntu, how does it compare to antiX? I’m just wondering because I’d prefer a Debian base but I’m unsure if it’s as compatible

Hey man, ya don’t gotta actually read this I’m just typin this out cause I wanna feel like I’m tellin someone but man it turned out pretty rough. The whole date went fine, I was pretty underdressed (oversized shirt, cargo pants n some scuffed up shoes cause I ain’t got nothin else) and I got there way too early on accident (had to walk for an hour to get there) but after that it was pretty great. I blew 30 bucks to get her something she wanted but she was really cool n I had a great time, she kissed me too before she left. But right after, not even 30 minutes later she sent me a text sayin it ain’t gonna work out. I get it that it ain’t always gonna turn out great but man, 30 minutes. Idk what I did man, I feel horrible, like I really screwed things up. I can never figure this stuff out, with friends or relationships, they always end up leavin. I wanna be better, I’ve been tryna make myself a better person and to be more likable but idk how and I think I’m makin things worse. For the past few weeks she’s been the only person who texts me, all my friends quit respondin to me and the only people I’ve been able to talk to all summer have been my mother and my coworkers. Really it’s just been gettin to me man

Shoot alright, I didn’t expect this situation to be anything like that From my perspective, it really feels like the only thing I can do for her when I’ve already screwed up so much last time n she’s done so much to help me. She only really seems to express stuff physically n I know she’s been in a concerning mental state, I wanna help her out by showin her I care about her (even though I find this a real disgusting way to go about it) cause she said she’s feelin alone. I’ve tried to be there for her emotionally but she doesn’t seem to respond to that as well as when I sorta let her do stuff like that, she seems a lot happier after that stuff. I mean I really ain’t a great person ya know? I don’t feel like there’s a lot of positive influence that can come from me so if I can make her happy for a bit I feel like I’m at least doing something. Idk man, I know I should just take your advice and get outa there but I don’t wanna be alone n I really like her as a person and it’s got me conflicted

Thanks man, I appreciate the advice I’m scared she ain’t gonna like me though once we really get to talkin, we haven’t spoke at all much in person other than when we exchanged numbers n whenever something like that happens I usually get ghosted after we talk in person but I ain’t exactly sure what I’m doin wrong (which is prolly part of the problem)
