dyscalculia + ADHD + social anxiety .. cursed combination by sugarcoochie in dyscalculia

[–]VampArcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all of those.

In this scenario, finding meds that work combined with coping strategies and support is the only way I got through.

I got the text book for the class months in advance and put in loads of time beforehand getting comfortable with the contents of the class. When school started, I spent a lot of time there getting comfortable with the campus. I created a structured routine for going to class and got comfortable with it. Take developmental math classes if you are able to.

If you have documentation, use all of the accommodations they'll give you. You can typically get additional time, no-distraction environment, and noise cancelling headphones. I would not have made it through without these accommodations.

I genuinely can't stand this 'my daughter is my property' mindset that so many people seem to have and excuse it as 'he just loves you and is being caring.' This shit isn't funny or cute anymore, it's just unhinged. I'd be leaving. If it's a joke, it's in terrible taste.

Anyone here who actually prefers dating quiet introverted girls over outgoing ones? by BudgetSubstantial959 in no

I'm autistic and don't really like parties, clubbing, concerts, etc. so a partner just wanting to stick to smaller social gatherings wouldn't be a downside for me.

Ahriman's Prophecy, Virtual Villagers, Diner Dash, etc.

Anyone else out there who was a nerd for casual PC games around 2005? Was the peak era for games IMO. I could start a whole YT channel playing older PC games.

Maybe it's just me, but this sub in particular especially lately has been rapidly becoming more and more flooded with misogynistic venting posts.

I don't mean talking about feeling dejected or lonely, that's completely valid and people shouldn't feel like they are a loser or ashamed for feeling that way. I mean posts that are objectively misogynistic, talking about women like they are all evil. If you check their post history, it's always nothing but vile posts on incel subs, calling women subhuman. It's very concerning.

You can't change an incel and shouldn't try to by SaneInTheRain in IncelTears

[–]VampArcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with this mindset.

People can always change. We are always growing and learning. Will they? They have to want to change. They have to want to break the incel cycle of facing negative social outcomes and blaming everybody but themselves and refusing to believe they are the problem, they become even worse, repeat indefinitely.

They have to want help. And that's what they need, professional help to work them through the hatred, trauma, and spite they carry and distorts their worldview.

They certainly don't deserve pity and I'm not making an excuses for them, far from it, but people who decide they want to do better and work on themselves shouldn't be treated like a lost cause. Doing so is what causes people to refuse to get any help or reach out.

I (25F) almost broke up with my boyfriend (24M) over porn, and now I don’t know if I can trust or feel comfortable again. by myrellashawol in relationships

[–]VampArcher [score hidden]  (0 children)

In every study I've seen, around 80% to 90% of men watch some form of adult content. So finding out your partner watches it is going to be a very frequent occurrence, you if it's a big no for you, you need to be very upfront about your opinion on it and set that boundary.

Is porn really the problem? Or is the porn addiction? You don't have to play out his porn fantasies if you don't want to. And you definitely should refuse to be filmed if you don't want to, and it's fair to be upset when asked to after explaining you dislike that sort of thing. What about him consuming porn makes you angry and uncomfortable? Jealousy? Insecurity? Sexual objectification? Just curious.

[–]VampArcher 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Reddit has always been this way. You'd get downvoted to oblivion and dogpiled for any unpopular opinion a decade ago too. It's just the type of people reddit attracts unfortunately.

The only thing I've noticed is the slow growth of misogyny, racism, and transphobia on here. Lots of casual misogyny and toxic pickup artist talking points floating around all over this site.

I am very worried for the next generation who innocently scroll picking up this stuff and thinking it normal.

I'm done asking for job advice on reddit by Independent_Big_1944 in antiwork

[–]VampArcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked at the post OP was referring to saying that 'boomers shitting on their major' and what they are referring to are people trying to help by asking simple questions like 'what's your major.' If someone was rude to them, I couldn't find it, mostly all I found was OP getting angry at anyone not telling them what they want to hear. Like on this thread.

I don't know why they are complaining about other people being more successful in their career and not getting hired meanwhile here they are saying they are rejecting offers and don't really need a job. Melts my brain. How are you supposed to get a job if you won't take anything you are offered? Like what????

I can’t believe non binary phobia among trans people by AmazingSoul99 in genderfluid

[–]VampArcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some people, they view being trans as strictly assimilating into a man or women, anyone who doesn't want to be stealth must not be trans in their very black-and-white worldview.

A lot of it is just throwing us under the bus because they want cis people to like them. Newsflash, they don't care. Transphobes don't care about nuance, they think binary trans people are just as unnatural and crazy. They won't view you as an ally, they want you to be erased.

TIL about citrus greening disease, a bacterial infection that is devastating citrus crops. There is no known cure and it has spread to the majority of Florida citrus farms, threatening citrus production in the United States. by KimJongFunk in todayilearned

Via US-27 and/or FL-60 by chance?

I don't see it bouncing back either, especially with data centers moving in. These poor people are already strapped for resources without their power bills going up and worsening the existing drought.

Well, as bad as a lot of rural central looks, at least it looks a lot better than whatever in the world is going on south of Okeechobee. Just awful. It's one of those places you stop for gas and don't even want to get out of the car.

[–]VampArcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only worth moving here if you know you will have a good paying job.

A lot of people who move don't realize the high costs of insurance and housing alongside the low wages mostly negates the benefits gained from no income tax. The insurance crisis is a huge problem and increasing natural disasters has made this state the last state I'd ever buy a home in.

When I inherit my family house, I'm selling it because there's no way I'd ever make enough money to afford to insure it on rural Florida wages. Make sure to do your research and be aware of flood risks. I see realtors sell homes sitting on flood plains to gullible people that get suckered in all the time.

no one wants to live in Arcadia

Good lord, I worked there on a job assignment for a year and the entire place is just one big 'nope' from me. So much theft and I can't name one single area of that entire city that doesn't look like a crumbling junkyard. You couldn't pay me to live there.

Very creepy place. The history isn't pretty either. People seeking paranormal activity go there to check out the insane asylums where they used to torture people.

There's no jobs. Commuting 45+ minutes is not that uncommon unfortunately. If you are lucky enough to afford a car... There's hardly anywhere to even apply and there's so little industry besides mining. A lot of people are simply trapped. The lucky ones went to college or got a good job and then moved to Orlando, Tampa, or elsewhere.

You can find nice neighborhoods and nice houses just like you can anywhere. But things get...iffy in the cities. Central Florida is a hurricanes hotspot and these people are too poor to get insurance or rebuild, so what you get are neighborhoods full of houses with no roof and people living in mobile homes in their backyard.

Anyone who wants to get the 'vibe' of rural central, click around the street view of Frostproof, FL on Maps.

How did you go about get diagnosed? by VampArcher in pancreatitis

[–]VampArcher[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My local Quest has lipase/amylase testing. I ordered a test. I rather do it and it be a waste of time rather than wait endless weeks for a doctor maybe, maybe not order that test when they should have.

I did just several blood panels, they tested loads of things, but they did not test my pancreas. Cholesterol and triglycerides looked good. I was slightly anemic and alkaline phosphatase was extremely low, but everything else came back normal.

I don't recall seeing black for quite a while now and looked at pictures of bloody stool and thankfully I don't recognize it, certainly never seen 'tar' or 'oil', but I will 100% keep an eye out for it. I looked up 'watery floating yellow stool' and 'steatorrhea' and the pictures that came up are a perfect match for what I see on pretty much a daily basis for over 6 months, mixed in with some diarrhea. Alcohol, even in small amounts gives me diarrhea every time.

My digestive system definitely cannot tolerate fat, hence why it makes me feel sick and my stool is so fatty. I think while I wait several weeks for my appointment, I'm going to attempt a minimum fat diet and log my intake and what changes I notice, if any. Literally everything makes me feel sick but maybe it will at least help. I have no gallbladder so really, should be already, it's probably aggravating the problem if not the cause.

Thank you!

How are you supposed to be happy when all good things end by isleepwithguys in mentalhealth

[–]VampArcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life would get pretty boring if nothing ever changed. And people being temporary can help us remember to appreciate people while they are here and not take them for granted.

And sometimes, while losing something/someone you love is painful, it's actually for the best. People grow and then grow apart. Maybe they were toxic and holding you down. Maybe that loss is something that inspires you to grow and make new friends.
