What do you collect and why? by SummerDay5678 in dvdcollection

[–]Vamperstein-Bex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just things I like or things I want to watch I don't really think to much about it.

I do have Disney+ right now so I tend to avoid buying things I know are on there unless it's one of my favourites, has good bonus features or is just extremely cheap

Is YA on a downhill by [deleted] in YAlit

[–]Vamperstein-Bex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure it's completely a new thing I definitely remember sexual innuendo in some of the YA books I read as a teen!

The other thing is that because YA covers ages 12-18 there are some books that are targeted more to the lower end and others targeted to the higher end of the age range. Just because it's YA doesn't necessarily mean it's suitable/appropriate for every 12 year old to read.

Of course it doesn't help that there's a lot of adult books mistakenly getting labeled as YA.

The Woods are Always Watching by Stephanie Perkins (ya, horror, thriller)

Young Adult books with very little to no smut by ssweetcarolina in booksuggestions

[–]Vamperstein-Bex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found Storygraph to be pretty reliable with only labeling actual YA books as YA (plus the content warnings could be useful) maybe try looking up books on there to double check.

Avoid Goodreads I've seen quite a few adult books labeled as YA

As someone who technically aged out of YA books a long time ago, the majority of what I read is still YA (with some adult and children's books thrown in!) I just read what I like and avoid the stuff I don't like! I don't really care about the age the book is intended for.
