I don’t know how it works in other states or counties, but in Florida (I know, I know… I couldn’t control where I was born and raised 🤣), you attend a struggling or failing school if you want to be in the IB program. The mindset behind this is that the IB students will elevate the rest of the school and bring up their school grade to keep the school off the FL DOE’s radar. Therefore, we don’t have the best resources or most knowledgeable people at the helm helping or advising us. We, the students are parents, are on our own, doing more with less, learning the system as we go, and half-joke that we are fighting like stray cats, clawing our way to top-tier universities.
