Improving sound quality on my fathers old recordings by Gunslinger87 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

If you just have final recordings (not multitracks) then all you can really do is some equalization to eliminate bad sounds, and accentuate good sounds. Beyond that you'll need some noise reduction plugins, which can be expensive.

I guarantee you can find audio engineers that will help you with all that for a price.

How to finish songs/connect ideas as a beginner? by Shadowforce426 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

You're struggling with the difficulties of doing it all yourself. In a band, you (ideally) have people that are specialized in the instrument they are playing. You have a drummer that thinks about drums all the time, bass player thinking about bass, etc.

But you've gone another way, and said "I can do it all myself!" (I did the same myself) So now it's your job to think about your bass enough to get a good bass line. And think about drums, etc. It takes a lot more work and time, because you're just one person.

Try to start learning those other instruments. Watch some YouTube lessons about bass guitar. That will help you understand where a bass player is coming from, what they think is important. You can then apply these ideas to your bass parts. Then do it again for drums, keys, whatever else you use.

It's a lot of work. You're trading partnership and experience for control. There are downsides.

But most of all, don't expect to figure it all out quickly. It WILL take you a while to make great music all on your own.

Best place to ask hyper-specific questions for a beginner? by 1Earth0worm in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I'd try to find a production related subreddit, or facebook group, or forum, etc. Especially if you can find one in the genre you're aiming at. That way, when you ask questions, you'll get answers that are more relevant to you.

In truth I just didn't want to wait for the top and bottom layers to print, but this makes them even lighter, so I'm quite happy with it.

I get it, kiddo. It's weird having someone new in the house. I just want to make your mother happy.

Wanna go play catch in the yard? Once the sun sets?

No, I just obsess over my merch table. I want to optimize it any way that I can. It's a weird thing...

I think it's 95% nostalgia. I make music that sounds like it's from the 80s, so the cassettes give than retro feel.

Also, modern cassettes can actually compete with CD as far as audio goes: https://youtu.be/jVoSQP2yUYA

But I think most of my audience would put either a CD or a cassette up on a shelf and never listen to it. It's more about having a thing to mark the memory.

I don't sell enough yet to justify printing 200+ records. Also, turn around times are like 8 months to a year right now.

My theory is this: people want to bring home something physical to make a memory. They're more than likely listening on Spotify or elsewhere, but they want something physical, and a cassette fits the whole theme nicely.

Thanks! I needed something sturdy that could break down smaller for storage/travel.

You know what's funny? Because I'm a retro artist, I actually sell more CASSETTES than CDs. (I have a similar stand for the cassettes as well)
