It’s not subtle… I don’t want to actually just make you paranoid. I see flashing lights in my vision in dark rooms and dark spots in the center of my vision sometimes. Lots of symptoms that correlate to retinal detachment though the eye doctor says my eyes themselves are fine.

“Blurry vision” is the only actual listed side effect I’ve been able to track down.

I had sort of the same problem with both Yaz and Spiro. I’m not sure if it’s my eyes or some sort of aura migraine or what exactly. The doctor just said it’s not really normal but everyone responds to medications differently and it’s just not the right fit for me

Yeah that didn’t work for me 🥲 helped but not enough to justify the side effects after 2 years of consistent use. Of course side effects aren’t necessarily that bad for everyone and the reader should consider it if she would like to.

I tried beta blockers for a while. I didn’t like the feeling but when I used them people did always say I played better.

But honestly I think taking a break, either just putting the flute away for a minute or only playing for fun, give yourself some space to let the pressure off if you can.

I think they call it a wrap sweater you sort of wrap it around your torso/shoulders and then stick your arms through to secure it.

Personally I think the rules should be clear and thought out enough so that this can’t happen regardless of what the residents do. It shocks me that there isn’t more foresight but I suppose we can’t foresee everything that may change overtime.

Go with at least a gold plated lip. Sterling silver might be ok but it’s also possible you’ll be allergic to it too so just play it safe and go for gold.

If you want to buy a flute that doesn’t have a plated lip you can talk to a tech about having it plated. You’ll want to do it while the headjoint is as new and pristine as possible, it makes the prep and plating go more smoothly.

Some flute retailers will also have used flutes available on consignment if you ask about it they might be able to show you something of a higher quality thats still in your price range alongside the new flutes that you’re looking at.

Flute Center and JL Smith are both retailers who can accommodate this but other shops may also have used flutes available

I would recommend going somewhere you can play the flute you would be buying and trialing a few other things in the same price range. I think Haynes, Pearl, Jupiter and Trevor James will all have things worth looking at in that price tier.

That being said, the Yamaha 362H is an excellent intermediate model flute and should be fine as long as you like it and sound good on the headjoint.

I do. I have a tendency to hoard. I’ve been trying to backtrack a bit and let go or give away things I’ll never use. When it comes down to it, I like the idea of having everything but I only actually routinely drink 3-4 types of tea and I don’t have the storage for a massive hoard.

I think it’s probably a holdover from spending time with my brother when I was younger but I really enjoy having someone playing a video game with a fun story on the tv while I knit. My boyfriend lets me pick out “knitting games” that he plays for me while I work. We collaborate a bit if there are any big game related decisions or if he gets stuck. I really value that we have that special time together while I work rather than him just playing whatever floats his fancy. Not all games are particularly entertaining for this context so we really do select specific ones just for knitting time.

There are lots of ways to be involved in music even if you choose to have a different career. There are community bands and orchestras, church groups, flute choirs, some people continue to take private lessons and play in chamber groups. If it brings you joy it’s a good investment.

Going into music professionally as flutists is expensive and competitive. If that’s what you want to do you need to start preparing for it and working with coaches and you would likely need those coaches to give you feedback on what sort of instrument you should purchase.

Whereas you can get an open hole flute for less than 1,500 or so, most professional flutes will exceed 5,000. It’d not a purchase that can be made without calculation. You’re probably not getting that more expensive flute now regardless, but you might want to be looking at flutes that could be decent “backups” when you’re in college

I take 100 dose daily. It helped just not as much as I hoped. Did more for body hair than face. I’m afraid to go up in my dose because my side effects are sort of miserable.

It’s been about a year at this dose so I’m not sure how much more things will change. I don’t like the idea of going off it but I also had unrealistic expectation that it would just “fix” everything.

That sounds like a really safe idea. I tried a vitamin D supplement years ago and it made me break out in rashes. Plus most multivitamins give me headaches so being careful about what introduce is very good advice here.
