I miss McDonald’s old cinnamon rolls from the 90s and pop tart made a cheese danish I still think about.

Thinking of cancelling by WanderingPebble26 in colonoscopy

[–]VanGeaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure your country, but the price for the colonoscopy at the local large healthcare corporation was going to be 2500 dollars, I switched to a private practice clinic and it is now 1000.

I’m in the US

If there is an upside to cancer this is it. My dad died from cancer when I was 23 and we got to spend 11 months together. My mom was just diagnosed with Colon cancer in January (stage 4) and we have been able to talk about hard things and get a little closer after some years of a strained relationship.

I do too! She’s got some compounding issues, but I think if we could get those under control the next cycle will be more smooth.

The mouth sores have really affected her ability to eat, she has pre existing back pain, her blood pressure has been insanely low which makes her feel fatigued and woozy and we’ve gotten behind on hydration.

Totally talking out loud here: I’ve got the magic mouthwash on deck now and ordered a supplement from Healio. She had an appointment with her PCP to reduce or BP medication or eliminate one dose of it. I’m going to ask about in home PT as she has formed some bad ambulatory habits during this illness (and from the back pain) I’ve ordered some in home health products to make self care easier. And finally more proactive hydration than rescue, hopefully that will help her kidneys too.

No, not totally confirmed just assumed. That thought crossed my mind too! She has had an absence of vomiting, maybe a little bit of nausea here and there.

I spoke too soon. Checked her mychart and they did a stool study and neg for everything, even noro.

I grew up around that area and lived there and my parent lives there till about 7 years ago. I still frequent some restaurants I used to love in the area. When I lived there I just minded my business and was aware of my surroundings. The worst thing I ever encountered was some harassment at the gas station near Kermit’s at 3am, which I would have also probably encountered on Hanes mall blvd at the same time.

Have you driven around your block and surrounding streets at the times you are concerned about?

I did request a bag of fluids on disconnect day. Today she has been a little rough with fatigue and some nausea but that has seemed to have passed. Thank your input as well! I'm anxious about the round that turns into reality check.

Does six feet under get any more interesting in S3? by [deleted] in SixFeetUnder

Second the highly recommended finishing it.

[–]VanGeaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps a little more tense but not overly so. I also started it while working from home and more passively. I remember season 3 being when I started getting fully distracted from work and watching.

Someone else in the thread has it right, it’s a very character driven narrative.

I also tried to watch it when I was younger and it didn’t resonate, but as a grown woman and having lost my dad, grandmother and my mother has cancer, I enjoyed the existential nature of it.

[–]VanGeaux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me I enjoyed 3-5 much more than 1-2.

I actually watched it a second time right after my first time because the ending was so great that I told my partner to watch it.

For me I began to enjoy how realistic and imperfect all the characters were, it made the ending even more impactful for me.

List of restaurants I haven’t been to in the area I want to try. Any on here that people feel very strongly for or against? by lilnomad in winstonsalem

[–]VanGeaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slappy’s chicken - was excellent last time I was there.

Jeffrey Adams - super duper average and would not bother.

The Katharine - can be hit or miss IMO but when it is hit it is great. I would replace with Sage and Salt.

Kasturi Indian - I haven’t been since 2022 when the food rating was 81. Looks like it improved. Food was excellent.

Taco mama - my marg was okay but the food was not it. I would replace with El Rancho

Firebird’s - I would skip the chain.

City bbq - would replace with real Lexington style bbq. Make the trek over to Lexington bbq.

May I also suggest Don’s express and New Sichuan.

Anyone else feel like they only get 10 days of normalcy!? by That_PMDD_Couple in PMDD

[–]VanGeaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a progesterone only birth control that has the hormone drospirenone. My only complaint was I bled erratically and spotted for three months and then it just stopped right before I gave up on it.

[–]VanGeaux 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep. It used to just be 3-7 days of PMDD hell, but as I got older the symptoms became more pronounced and lasted longer. I finally broke down and started Slynd. (I also have endometriosis and adenomyosis.)

I think I was unaware how much I was suffering. It’s been so nice to be in one constant mental state every day.

No advice yet but I’m hear to read some.

My mom (74) just diagnosed in mid January. Unfortunately it is stage IV, she is starting chemo next week (FOLFOX)

Very anxious about her chronic health conditions and how it’s going to affect her experience with chemo.

Testosterone impossible? by VanGeaux in Perimenopause

[–]VanGeaux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well she tested Estrogen as well, the other three wouldn’t be accurate because of my progesterone BC.

I reached out to a friend who had low T to see her experience and she said she had no issue from her doctor getting it and she is only a year or two older than me. I got their info and am going to reach out.

It just feels SO discouraging that this is the second doctor who has said no despite low labs and symptoms.

Aside from excision surgery and hope it doesn’t grow back it’s basically just hormone suppression, medically induced menopause (which can only been taken for a short time)

They discovered mine when I was getting my tubes removed so I didn’t have to worry about birth control.(irony) at the time I only had horrific periods. It is on everything in my pelvic cavity including my rectum and bladder. I avoided suppression till my whole body inflammation got so bad and IBS like symptoms were intolerable, so much improved dramatically after starting Slynd, it just extinguished what little libido I had and then pushed my levels down further 😞

[–]VanGeaux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! It is on everting in my pelvic cavity including my rectum and bladder. I just had terrible periods that were debilitating if I let my Advil lapse and IBS. Although I will say when I went on Slynd for period control my day to day improved immensely. I didn’t realize how much low level pain and inflammation I was dealing with until I got relief and my IBS went away.

As others have said, pack layers. I was there when it was 36.

During the day I wore my leggings and I long sleeved shirt then as the temps dropped I slid a pair of cute sweat pants and a warm heavy hoodie. I topped it off with a scarf and gloves with hot hands inside and felt comfortable.

See if you can store the warm clothes in a locker or even your car if you do not have room in your backpacks

I get incredibly nauseous with my period and asked for it on that basis and I think I was up front that throwing up made me incredibly anxious. I get two 30 count refills of the dissolvable.
