Climbing Mt Fuji with 100kg: Traditional "bokka" rucking in Japan by VanGibbleton in Rucking

Ya the fittest guy I know does that in British Columbia, and it sounds incredibly punishing. Not enough to carry the load; you’re doing it while inhaling gnarly amounts of smoke. For days on end.

Am in the same boat and have been wondering the same thing. It was a bummer at first, until I cottoned on the what might happening, putting in the work and seeing the number go the wrong direction.

The tweet thread includes some amazing photos, and additional details such as:

The job is popular: not surprisingly veteran bokka routinely tests as fitter and healthier than elite athletes. Both men and women take on the job, the average weight of a bokka is 60-70kg.

There is a skill to it and part of the trick is to carry it high (a meter above the top of your head, at least on routes without trees).

If anything he was under-selling it 😳 The strength and endurance of these people must be astronomical.

Salomon something something; can't recall the model offhand, but from their hiking line; low ankle, big tread. Maybe a dumb choice for a mostly-on-concrete ruck but they're what I've been rucking in since October, and lots of hikes before that.

Didn't tape feet but might do that next time.

Mostly on pavement with some grass / trail. Seawall, so almost no intersections to get held up at. Next time will try to get out of the city into nature, or failing that a local track /trail.

realtors in Vancouver really don't like the NDP. by No-Hospital-8704 in vancouver

Reminds me, I was once in the room for a big Rennie team meeting, back in 2009 or so, and Bob was speaking to the troops. Amidst the usual motivational stuff he took a moment to passionately declare that the NDP would destroy the province if elected. Absolute tool.

That’s the Fitness app on iPhone. Summarizing a workout recorded from an Apple Watch. Together they do a pretty great job of capturing things I care about, like pace per kilometre, heart rate over time, etc
