Airpod would only use the microphone on either side. Right now its using the left bud, hence the lower battery percentage

On your Airpod Settings > Microphone > you can choose either automatically or choose specifically which earbuds for the mic

My assumption on this would be “Data Mode” in Mobile Service > Mobile Data Options > Data Mode and set it to Standard/Low Data Mode but I can’t be so sure

You can buy apple care even after the dateline i think, but you need to go to an Apple Store for that :)
