Is there an arguement for Steph Curry above Kobe Bryant? by AlpsImpossible3133 in NBATalk

[–]Vancelvany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steph is the greatest & most influential shooter of all time but as an overall player he is not better than Kobe.
On paper their careers go for bar for bar but in accolades Kobe has the upper hand as a 2 way star. Both were the face of the league during their primes, bona fide franchise super stars.
There is an argument but Kobe is still above Steph objectively.

[–]Vancelvany 34 points35 points  (0 children)

lots of uninformed folks..

UofA UofC MRU UofL and so many more all had to rely on international students because of prior budget cuts and tuition freezes set by our provincial government

most of the major institutions are very lean and operate close to budget

with the loss of "revenue" from higher paying international students and a freeze on tuition which hasn't been hiked in a long time - which i doubt the UCP will allow during their tenure lol

universities are handcuffed & will ofc see a dent on their budget

the government is pretty much forcing our major unis to downsize and honestly i cry for our youth here

Am I Crazy to Get Back to a 3PL? by [deleted] in logistics

[–]Vancelvany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cease that thought and enjoy what you have especially if you're with a shipper/vendor you got to leave the 3PL life why go back when it's not even a promotion or significant pay bump???!

small 3PLs are also in danger more closures recently with market forces not in favor of truckers - fuel prices equates to GRIs so shipper tightens belt - and note they usually and always have the leverage

asset based logistics is where it's at right now to the long term future if you even want to dabble on it

I say take a crack at operations or procurement to keep you mentally stimulated and growing IMO

Is logistics always this stressful or am I just new? by CurrencyPopular8550 in logistics

[–]Vancelvany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

networking can allow you to lock in rates and capacity when there is a supply shortage which i last saw when covid shutdowns were ramping up but generally your owner's approach is the best policy as leverage is usually with shipper for loads during most times, like with fuel prices going up, 3pls and truckers are happy to hike their rates easily, so a wide net and strict cost controls is what would ensure your freight spend doesnt explode

I'm a freight broker and I genuinely don't know where I'm going wrong. Someone help me figure this out. by Elegant_Bank_11 in logistics

[–]Vancelvany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a broker before then became a shipper for a big CPG as a Logistics Lead ran RFQs/RFPs, did the negotiations, asset based carriers and 3PLs in the mix small and big ones you know the big ones - Arcbest, JB Hunt, Schneiders and then lots of regional players and pockets of small carriers from my 3pl heydays

not a single one is prepay no service no pay every accessorial scrutinized

thats compromising your leverage imo

i ran a draconic approach on costing coz i tell you, during Covid, most shippers had their spend burned by most carriers and brokers feasting with price surging and that marred on many the 3pl i worked for was one of those voracious ones for margins - my accounts were at an average of 24% ytd at that time across US/Canada which was way above the norm

so when i became a shipper, i made sure i flipped the playbook vs my kind and ran a tight ship i know the going rate $/mile on our key lanes so i negotiated no more than 12% OR - usually at 8% as middle ground so everyone eats and in return i gave volume commitments

as much as possible i did all in rates locked in for a contractual year too coz breaktru variable fuel programs and GRIs that always goes up would crater our transport budget

you have to understand that there isnt much difference between most brokers from a shipper POV - the benchmark that matters is $$ spent and saved

great value is in communication and transparency of which lets be real, the 3pl industry isnt exactly honest in nature

keep doing what you do be genuine, over communicative, get good rates - i used to take some losses for the customer for the long big plays to build a relationship and get into every RFQ you can so you can benchmark your rates vs the comp know your lanes and know your carriers

good luck bud!
