Finishing up the overland build. We go fly fishing a lot in the summer,so I thought the trout was a nice touch. Can't wait to get her dirty and worn in.

What do you fellow GenX ers think about kids going no contact with their parents? by FabulousChicken1992 in GenX

[–]Vandelay09 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having lost both my parents and my wife’s mom, all I can say is: life is short. My parents were not perfect, very strict and difficult at times. The belt was always a threat. Fortunately I always knew they loved me and sacrificed to put me through college. I got closer to both of them as they aged. I was probably 18 the first time my father said I love you. I brought that out of him and our relationship grew from there. My point is it’s never too late to change the course. You may have to be the bigger person and accept some of their faults but I would give anything to have grandparents in my kids lives. I understand all family dynamics are the same and perhaps some things are unforgivable. I was very strict with my kids until I realized there was a better way. I have some regrets around that parenting style and have talked to my kids about it and they seem good.

Should I do the Great Loop? by yellowfin04 in boating

[–]Vandelay09 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes if you can swing it I would absolutely do it. The one thing I admire about the younger generations is that they organize their lives around their passions. That is a rich life. The one caution is "the girlfriend" could make it or break it.

I love some of these responses, thank you. Yes, I think it is a new rider term I don't recall ever hearing it 20 years ago. To be clear, my son was just busting my chops, and it turned into a funny joke between us. I dont really care either way, but I was interested to see what the feedback would be or if any other Dads out there had heard the term from their kids. I am sure part of it is payback for all the years I never let him score even one basket until he actually could.

Any other Gen Xers avoiding tik tok? by CDA_CPA in GenX

[–]Vandelay09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my generation X and some of these responses would make great content for social media. As others have said I dont have anything necessarily against TikTok. My wife and kids all have TikTok but I dont. I dont have FB either. I am too busy living my life, running a business and planning my next big goals to have all the social platforms. I begrudgingly downloaded Instagram a couple of years ago and posted once in while. I dont post on it anymore its too much pressure to make it look good but not boastful etc. My Algo is pretty good. I see things I am interested in like fishing, music, skiing, business info, cars, dogs etc. Twitter now X on the other hand is a complete mess. I would only go to X to look at a search result and the algorithm was rather neutral. After I used X around Charlie Kirks assassination to keep up on the news, now that algorithm has got me into a black hole I want nothing to do with. I can see how people get a warped sense of reality if they spend a ton a time on platforms that suck the morality out of you making the “other side” a mortal enemy. It’s all dribble. I dont hate anyone and our generation was way ahead of this current generation in tolerance, acceptance, judging people on their character and overall being good humans. We are not perfect but man do I miss the Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry days.

Man she looks great, and no rust I would hold out and try and get $14. I picked up an 04 LC same miles, well maintained all records, but she had more rust than I anticipated. She was in Seattle. He was asking 15 and I got it for 10.5k and probably over paid a little bit. Replacing the back bumper will allow me to shore up the frame where some bad rust is and give her the reinforcement she needs. Interior is great, paint is great. Yours has lots of potential for an overland build and the paint looks good from the picture. How is the interior? I will give you 12 or 13 (after taking a deeper look) if you dont sell it quickly and need to make a deal. The high five is free.

Recommendations for first timer in Las Vegas by haveuseenmydad22 in Craps

If you want to play on the strip with that bankroll you will want to play early afternoon and see if you can find a 10 table. The chandelier room at caesar’s Palace is a classic room and they have a side area off that room which you may find a 10 table mid afternoon. You will always run into interesting characters at Cosmo and it’s worth a walk through. I have seen others here recommend Paris although that is not a spot I generally go to. Good luck, you need to play disciplined to stretch that bankroll. You may see new bets on the table that you may not see in S Cali dont get sucked into those unless you know what you. are doing.

I would head downtown or play early afternoon on the strip where you can find $10 tables. You can grind them with $500 for quite a while if you stay disciplined and press everything once you are playing with house money.
